^h Euntto Jarmsik USPS 580-360 THURSDAY, MARCH 26,1987 VOLUME 26-NUMBER 51 OFFICE phone' 312-669-5621 YOUR home town PAPER SINCE 1960 254 per copy Minutes of the Village Board of Trustees The Regular Meeting of the Village of Huntley Board of Trustees was held in the Board Room of the Village Hall on March 12, 1987 and called to order at 8:00 p.m. by the President. Roll noted present: President Dhamer, Trustees Ahrens, Wicke, Berlin, Basel, Brown, Russ, Attorney John Cowlin, Police Chief Rossi, Director of Public Works Shear and Building Inspector Spradlin. The minutes of the February 12, 1987 meeting were read and approved with no additions nor corrections. Financial reports submitted to the Board were reviewed. Trustee Wicke made a motion, seconded by Trustee Brown, to accept the Treasurer's Report as presented. Upon roll call, all trustees voted aye and the motion carried. Current expenses were examined at length; thereafter, a motion was made by Trustee Russ, seconded by Trustee Ahrens, to approve their payment and upon roll call, all trustees voted aye, the motion carried and a listing of said bills is attached hereto. Village Engineer Schwegel entered the meeting. The first item to come before the Trustees was the request for Preliminary Plat -approval of Bakley's 12th Addition to the Village of Huntley by Attorney Newkirk. The Planning Commission made a recommendation at their February 9th meeting to the Board to approve the Preliminary Plat as presented and explained by attorney Newkirk. It was suggested by Mr. Schwegel to modify Charles Street in this addition to include a cul de sac. Attorney Newkirk stated that Lots 38, 2-8, 10-16, 18-24 and 16-32 are to be zoned R-1. Lots 1, 9, 17, 25, 33-38 are to be zoned R-4. The extension of Douglas Street is on the east and Timer Drive West goes to the south. It was stated that a piece of property is to be donated to the Park District for access to the east side of 01' Timer's Park. Noted also was that Continued on page 9 Huntley Boy Scouts Take Second Place in First Aid Contest Huntley Boy Scout Troop #167 took 2nd place at the Annual First Aid Meet in Crystal Lake. Nine Troops from around the area participated in the meet. Scouts were given five situations in which first aid was to be given. Each situa- tion involved all the scouts in our troop. After the five situations, Judges added the scores and announced which troops would be participating in the semi-finals. Once in the semi-final we were given three more situa- tions which we had to com- plete. The Judges then added these scores and announced the top three teams, and we took second place. The scouts that partici- pated were: Keith Brown, Mike Brown, Eric Swanson, Greg Coloson, Erin Bowie and Dave Jilek. "Good Job Guys" Spring Registration at M C C Registration for MCC's April/May Community Eudcation classes ia now underway. More than 150 courses, seminars, trips and workshops are offered during this term. Choices range from Investment for the 1980'8 to Growing Summer and Exotic Bulbs. Courses and seminars are offered for business people, in computer areas, in dance, home and family life, recrea¬ tion and for youth. Two all-new trips are offered. On April 24 the College will host "Wall Street, Chicago Style," a guided visit to the Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Mid¬ west Stock Exchange and Options. On April 9 the CoUege will host a trip to view the John Singer Sargent exhibition at the Chicago Art Institute. The exhibit features one of America's greatest landscape, genre and portrait artists or the 19th and early 20th centuries. For a complete listing of MCC's April/May Community Education offerings, consult the yellow MCC schedule mailed to residents this week. Registration can be made at the College, located on Rt. 14 between Crystal Lake and Woodstock. For more information, call (815) 455-3700. Classes begin the week of April 6. Say You Found High School Drama ¦{<: The Huntley High School drama department will present: "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat" on March 25, 26, & 27th. The show is a classic musical based on the Biblical story of Joseph, played by Cris Manley, whose favored by his father, Jacob (Greg Jones) over his 11 brothers. Jacob shows his love by giving Joseph the "Amazing Techicolor Dream Coat." Jealousy overcomes the brothers and they sell Joseph- to Potiphar (Dan Erath). Potiphar is enchanted by Josephs character. All is well until Mr. Potiphar (Char Landers) is caught seducing Joseph. Joseph is cast into jail, interprets dreams, encounters the Pharoah (Dave Erath) of Egypt and again meets his brothers who had enslaves him. His eventful journey is narrated by Tanya Pupich and accompanied in song by the melodious High School singers. Everyone is invited to enjoy three nights of drama, comedy, music and fun. Director - Dorothy Dammyer and Phyllis Breetschneider 1 yr. Director - Gwen Jensen, Marie Fettes and Karen Kohiey It was moved and passed to accept slate of Officers. Lioness Kohiey gave s report on the Caramel Com Ralley in South Elgin. Caramel Corn Day will be May Ist. Lioness Melahn reported that the hearing mobil will be avialable in September. Lioness Chesek reported that the Girls State Repre¬ sentatives have been chosen: Angie Doty, Heather Jagman and Lisa Gow, Nancy Kohiey is the Alternate. Lioness Wasserstrass reported anyone interested in Scotch Doubles bowling on April 11th must let her know by April 9th. Lioness Mattingly showed some preliminary drawings on town sign. The Committee is still working on it. Next meeting is to be held April 15th, with an Easter Parade and a silent auction. Any woman in the community interested in joining our club, please feel free to attend any of our meetings. Phyllis Brettschneider, Sec. Vehicle Stickers Now Due Passenger car owners who have lecense plates expiring in March should buy their renewal stickers at a Secretary of State facility or a financial institution, Secretary of State Jim Edgar said today. It is now too late to send applications by mail and receive stickers '.jefore the March 31 expira¬ tion date. March 1988 stickers may be purchased at Secretary of State facilities in Springfield and Chicago, and at more than 1,660 financial institutions, including 837 banks, 201 savings and loan associations, 27 credit unions and about 600 Chicago- area currency exchanges. The new, red sticker is attached to the back of the ID'card. Simply peel it off and place it over the current sticker at the bottom of the rear plate. Approximately 530,000 pre¬ printed renewal applications have been mailed to passenger car owners who renew their stickers in March. Most motorcycle owners are receiving newly designed plates this year. Approximately 227,500 renewal applications were mailed to motorcyclists who must display their new plates by April 1. Another 21,000 renewal applications were mailed to those who received new plates last year and are purchasing March 1988 stickers. Motorcycle plates and stickers are available at Secretary of State facilities in Springfield and Chicago.
