LINDA BORHART TOOK JR. CHAMPION AT STATE FAIR
Springfield, II. (Aug. 12)—Linda Borhart's intermediate yearling heifer topped a strong class and retumed to defeat four other heifer class winners and be named Junior Champion of the Junior Department Hostein Show at the 1981 Illinois State Fair. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Borhart of Hunttey.
Linda also participated in an Invitation Diary Contest and took 9th Place out of 36. She is now in competition to go to the World Dairy Expo this October in Madison, Wisconsin.
Sidewalk Day this year was Tilled with many bargains. Music was provided by the Senior's Kitchen Band and the Cary Music Center. The park was fllled with exhibitors with crafts, shoes, fumiture. The Music Boosters und Athletic Boosters also had booths in the park.
One of the highlights was the Jaycees Dunk Tank. Everyone had fun dunking friends. The Republican had their pet parade with dogs, turtles and fish competing. The Lionesses and Seniors sold all of thcir baked goods. Yum Yuml
The Park District had a booth at the center and games. A Park District T shirt was won by Jessica Williams. The Boy Scouts had a good time selling Hot Dogs at the Huntley Supermarket and cheering the organist on.
Meanwhile downtown, Soula Galanis had a large display of Greek Pastries on hand. The dance in the evening was moderately crowded to hear the Country Classics who played excellently. The dance was held inside because of rain.
On August 13, the Huntley Auxiliary held their regular meeting at the Legion Home with President Arlene Mattingly presiding. Seven officers were present. Mrs. Mabel Schultz installed Treasurer Betty Zirk.
President Mattingly an¬ nounced the chairman for tha year and volunteers were askM to fill vacancies.
Americanism Chairman Mabel Schultz announced the theme for the 1982 Essay Contest. It is "What Strengths Does America Need to Preserve Freedom?''
Reporting on the 61st Dept. Conventtbn were Mrs. Mabel Schultz, Mrs. Arlene Mattingly and Mrs. Marilyn Eckman. . An invitation to the McHenry County Installation at Crystal Lake Post on August 16 at 6 p.m. and the llth District Installation at Downers Grove Post Home on Sept, 19 at 7:30 were read.
A motion was made to change the April 1982 meeting to April
CATHY GOEHL WINS TRIP FOR TWO
The Trip for Two to Indian Lake Resort was presented to Cathy Goehl of Huntley by Marge O'Brien, Mgr. Editor of the Farmside. The winning ticket was drawn from the Huntley Coin Op.
The Rib Dinner for Two at the L-Station in Gilberts was won by Richard Stallbaum of Huntley. The winning ticket came from the Huntley Phannacy.
The Tickets to Great A- f.erica were won by Leslie Zirk from the Coin-Op.
There were three drawings for Circus World tickets (5 each). The winners were Bob Roenspies of Elbum - Buck Bros. Inc.; Jo Kidwell of Dundee - Pinecrest Golf & Country Club; and John Elko of Harvard - Marlowe Feed & Hatchery.
There were nine winners of Santa Village Tickets (5 people each). They are:
David Fischhausen - Huntley Inn; Pennie Galanis - Village Inn; Olive Staadt - J.H. Patterson; Rick Yurs - Hansen Heating & Plumbing; Katy Dwyer - Harry's IGA; Ernest Stading Jr, - State Bank of Huntley; Roy Diedrick - Heinemann Hardware; Jeremy Lesser - Huntley Supermarket and Rick Stark - Or. James O'Laughlin.
NEW BUSINESS IN HUNTLEY
Pictured above is Howard Shapiro of Howard's Communication as he inspects the work of one of the employees of the company which just moved to Huntley. The company is owned by his wife, Jeonettee. The company moved into the building formerly occupied by V & V Electronics. They will service converters for cable TV on a nationwide basis. Mr. Shapiro is general manager of United Cable IV which serves the Huntley area. He reported that 60% of the community have signed up for cable TV.
HUNTLEY HARVESTORS AT STATE FAIR
The Huntley Harvestors competed at the State Fair last week in the Share-the-Fun Competition. Although they did not get 1st place, they had a perfect score and a superior rating.
Several of the Harvestors showed their projects at the State Fair. They are:
