On Sunday, August 20, Huntley Park District held their dedication ceremony of the new Diecke Recreation Center and Administrative Office. At 12:30, Betsey Warrington, Recreation Director, welcomed everyone, including DeLoris Doderlein, II. State Representative. A brief history of the Park District was given and greetings from Lois Deicke were extended, although Mrs. Deicke was unable to attend. ¦ She relayed her greetings and her fondness, along with Mr. Dcicke's, for Huntley and especially the park. She reminisced about how in 1963, then mayor Will Brill, approached them with his idea about the park being Mayor Dhamer and Sherri Ottley, Miss Huntley, cut the ribbon at the dedi¬ cation ceremony of the new Deicke Recreation Center. developed. They purchased the 26 acres for $1000 per acre. The Park District was formed in 1966. The building addition is 4000 square feet. Roger Muterspaugh is the architect and Carmichael Construction, the General Contractor. Mayor Dhamer was present and stated that the building is a great addition to our growing community and will serve the people's recreation needs well. Rev. Ron Woodruff gave the invocation, the Mayor Dhamer, along with Miss Huntley, Sherri Ottley, cut the ribbon! The building was open for "tours" and punch and cookies were served. The Park District's Board of Commissioners would like to thank everyone who attended and are looking forward to seeing the building in full use by the residents of the community. School Starting August 25 Huntley Grade School will be starting Friday, August 25, 1989 for grades 1 through 8, from 8:10 to 11:10 am. Kindergarten starts Monday, August 28, 1989 with AM and PM attendance. Pre-school starts Monday, September 11, 1989, 8:10 am. High School students will start Friday, August 25, 1989. Blood Bank Drive Results, 4-H Winners At State Fair McHenry County 4-H'ers had a blue-ribbon day at the 1989 Illinois State Fair on Sunday, August 13. The area youngsters were among more than 7,500 exhibiting projects in the Junior Division of this year's Fair. Superior Award winners from Huntley were Laurie Harp in Stitchery and Carie Bein in Flower Arranging. Also participating in State Fair Junior Show events from Huntley were: Carie Bein—Flower Arranging, blue; Elizabeth Halat—Vegetables, blue; Laurie Harp~Stitchery, rosette; Jessica Lombard— Clothing Revue, rosette; Amy Roaenthal—Clothing Revue, rosette; Leslee Wesemann— Woodworking, blue; Tina Wesemann—Clothing Revue, rosette Richard Schauer, from Union, received an Award of Excellence rosette in Computers. 4-H'ers spend all year preparing their projects for county fairs and 4-H shows. Only the best of those projects are eligible to be shown at the State Fair. All Illinois youngsters between 8 and 19 years of age are eligible to join 4-H. For more information on local clubs, phone your County Extension Office. Sticker Deadline Approaches Secretary of State, Jim Edgar, today reminded passenger car owners who have license plates expiring in August to buy their renewal stickers at a Secretary of State vehicle facility or at a financial institution that sells stickers. It is now too late to mail applications and guarantee delivery of stickers before the August 31 expiration date. Herb Glissendorf receives his "Three Gallon Club" plaque from Blood Drive chairman. May Chesak. Thirty-six units of blood and three deferrals were the results of the Blood Bank Drive on August 15 for the Heartland Blood Centers at Aurora. This amount will help 108 people as each unit of blood can help 3 people. For example, plasma to a burn patient victim, red blood cells to a heart surgery or cancer patient and platelets to a leukemia patient. So to those 36 donors and 3 would- be donors, many, many thanks. Special notice to Don Hardy, who belongs to the 8-gallon club. A plaque was given to Herbert Glissendorf, who belongs to the 3-gallon club. Those to receive plaques are 4-gallon members Lonnie Mallegni, Richard Polnow and Mary Lou Hardy and 3-gallon members Connie Westphal, Michael Schiesher, Jim Bond and Rich Diedrick. Your chairman, May Chesak, wishes to thank the First Congregational Church for the use of the Social Hall and facilities; to Jann Crabill for all her valuable help; to Fern Enstrom and Arlene Mattingly for help in many various ways; to the print-out callers Shirley Hartrick, Francis Fox, Arlene Mattingly, Carol Donahue and Doris Ball; to the 3 churches for helping to publicize it; to the Huntley Farmside for all its helpful publicity; to the many business places allowing posters to be displayed; and to any others who helped in some way. Most of all, grateful appreciation is expressed to the Blood Donors who made our day! The next Blood Drive will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 1990, when we will hope for an even larger number of blood donors.
