Old Engine Back In Service ¦^'^.'>>i The Huntley Fire Protection District is proud to announce that Engine 936, a 1977 International Co. 1950B Class A Pumper, was refurbished and put back in service May 31, 1988. The refurbishing was done by Mike Lovins and Chuck Wells at a cost of $14,000.00 which is a savings of $36,000.00 to the taxpayers and district. It would have cost the district and taxpayers about $50,000.00 to have the engine taken to a fire apparatus service center to be refurbished. The engine was completely stripped down, sand-blasted, welding was done in areas that needed it, the engine entirely primed and repainted Cherry Apple Red with white on the top part of the cab. All chrome and aluminum plating was cleaned and then the engine was lettered. All wood slats were cleaned and had three coats of varnish applied. Compartments were taken apart and re-done and new matting put in compartments. Mike Lovins and Chuck Wells spent every evening and weekends for the past two months to refurbish the engine. They did an outstanding job and the engine looks and operates like a new engine. The engine will serve the district for serveral years which means the district will not have to purchase a new engine for serveral years. The engine meets ISO Insurance ratings and National Fire Protection Standards. The engine is at Station #1 for all residents to inspect and look over. ^^. % \l- ^ Huntley Junior High Graduation Congratulations go out to the 1988 junior high graduates of Huntley Grade School! Several achievement and scholastic awards were awarded that evening at the ceremony. The American Legion awards went to Heather Brettman and Lane Linnenkohl. The Donahue Memorial awards went to Ki C. Glenn and Heather Brettman. Natasha Drufke, Class of '88 Valcdictrian, and Tuti AbduUai, Class of '88 Salutatorian, addressed the ceremony audience with delightful speeches. Congratulations again from all of us to all of you graduates! We hope you have a great summer, and wish you the best of luck as you enter Huntley High School in the fall of 1988. Library News Many residents have been asking questions of the group who have been working to establish a library in Huntley. One of the most frequently heard is: Why is it necessary to form our own library district? If we do not form a library district, part or all of Huntley will be annexed to various neighboring library districts, namely, Algonquin, Hampshire, Woodstock, Marengo, Dundee, or Elgin. This will mean that Huntley willbe divided up for library services and that residents will pay a library tax to neighboring communities. These taxes will be at the rate previously established for those communities, and will remain in their libraries. Many residents are currently using neighboring libraries and are purchasing library cards. They are traveling out of town when we can have these same services in Huntley. If we are going to pay a library tax, let's pay that tax to Huntley and have our own library conveniently located in our own town, and under local control. All - Star Game June 12 On Sunday, June 12, Huntley will host the Traveling League All-star Game. If you're looking for something to do for a couple of hours tho game will start at 1:00 P.M. Hot dogs, pop, ice cream, etc. will be available. Come out and support these fine kids from Huntley and surrounding towns. A big thanks to everyone who purchased raffle tickets to help sponsor the Legion Baseball program. Like so many things in life we take for granted, the costs to sponsor baseball teams are astronomical. In closing, a big thanks to the Huntley I,egion for sponsoring the team, the parents for supporting the team, and to Don Enstrom who for countless years has donated his time to umpire.
