"How Sweet It Is." The sounds coming from a Rally were not those of Jackie Gleason, famed for his Honey- mooners TV routine of years ago, but rather those of a group of Lionesses.
The Lionesses, approximate¬ ly 50 strong accompanied by a few prominent Lions, were from the area and they were gathered together to lay plans for Lioness Caramel Corn Day, scheduled to be held on Friday, Mayl, throughout the state.
Caramel Corn Day income supports vaious Lions' ser¬ vices and programs, including the Mobile Glaucoma Screening Unit, as well as a Mobile Hearing Unit; an eye donor registry program to supply tissue for sight restoring corneal transplants, and Camp Lions, a summer camping program for blind, sight impaired, deaf, and hearing impaired children.
Among those attending the meeting, or Rally, as the Lionesses call it, were members of the Lioness Club of Huntley.
On Caramel Corn Day, Lionesses attending the Rally will join their Lioness associates throughout the state and hundreds of volun¬ teers to give away caramel corn and accept contributions to fund the Lion and Lioness program.
Several other Caramel Corn rallies were held in other locations throughout the state to promote and plan for the event.
As part of the Rally, Lion¬ esses heard from area resi¬ dents, young and old, who have benefited from Lions and ' Lioness service programs and they laid plans to promote and organize the campaign locally.
Caramel Q.<?rn Day is held annually the first Friday of May under the sponsorship of the Lions of Illinois Founda¬ tion, 7321 W. Lake Street, River Forest, the Philanthro¬ pic agency of the state's more than 30,000 Lions and Lioness Club members in more than 800 clubs.
