Starting off the program was the Sth Grade Band who were making their 1st appearance playing "The Pea¬ nut Song", "The Wood I Continued on Page 4, 7,10,11 Chopper", and William Tell Overture. Jessica Williams was named the outstanding Sth Grade Band students. She and Julie Trickle and Brian McDonald also competed with the other bands downstate. Other Sth grade members are: 8tti GRADE QRAOUATES The entire eighth grade graduatmg class of Huntley Elementary School, consisting of 63 members, has been working very hard on thd preparations for Graduation Week. Their goal is to personalize the activites to be meaningful to them. The theme "Underwater Fantasy" has been chosen for the week. Monday, May 23 was the day of the class trip. The student^ decorated the bus with siga^ reading "Just graduated", and "Great America of bust " Tuesday was spent deoorating the gym for the dance Tuesday evening. The disc jockey group "Geny" spun records and kept everyone dancing. Wednesday was spent practicing for graduation itself and Thursday is the BIG DAY. The graduation ceremony is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Grade School gym. Everyone is invited to share in the students joy in passing this first big milestone in their life. This informa¬ tive meeting will involve discussion on the new multi¬ purpose lights, announcer stand, and baseball fields. Everyone is welcomed and all suggestions are needed. The meeting will be held at the Huntley American Legion on Wednesday, June 29th at 7:30 p.m. LINDALeBOIDA TOOK HONORS AT STATE SCIENCE FAIR Linda LeBoida, an eight grader at Huntley Elementary School eamed a First Place in State CompetHun at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Sdence Fair in Cham¬ paign, D. Her project was a study of the l>est coverings to hold in the heat from solar energy. Her conclusions were that double-paned glass holds tatj the heat longer than triple plastic, double plastic or single glass. Linda worked very hard on her project since last October. Cassie is the Valedictorian with a grade point average fbr Junior High of 4.0. Monica and Marci tied for seoond place Salutatorian positon with a grade point average of 3.98. All three students will give a speech during die graduation ceremony Thursday night. MEMORIAL DAY IN HUNTLEY The Huntley American Legion Pbst #673 will conduct Memorial Day services in honor ofthe nations war dead at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 30th at the Huntley Cemetery, Commander Ronald Emricson ofHuntley Post #673 announced today. Chairman of this year's Memorial Day observance is Robert Schultz, who outlined some of the details of the Post's Memorial Day ceremonies. The judging event is one of many leam by doing experiences 4-H memtters may participate in. The Judging program helps youth leam decision making skills, consum¬ er skills, cooperation skills as well as learaing the standards of specific items. The top four scorers in eadi area will make up the county team that will participate in the State Judghig Contest on June 28 at the University of lUinois, Urbana-Champaign.
