Local  Students Awarded National Honor
The Society of Distin¬ guished American High School Students announced today that 6 students from the First Congregational Church have been selected as members in its honor society for 1987.
Local students accepted as 1987 members include: Kim Reed, Gwen Ziller, Tami Sherman, Dave Bond, Jackie Swanson and Beth Frost.
As members, these students will have the opportunity to compete for college scholar¬ ships through The Society's National Awards Program. This year, 141 colleges have ear¬ marked more than $700,000 in scholarship funds for Society members.
Additionally, The Society sponsors members-only cash awards of up to $2,000 per recipient for higher educa¬ tion purposes, and its college referral programs recommend members for admis¬ sion and grants-in-aid to 350 Continued on page 12
Huntley  School  Given   Pumpkins

Pictured in front of them are the pumpkins which were donated by Taylor Stump and Tree Removal in Huntley. The pumpkins were purchased from the farm of Marvin Radloff. Mr. Taylor donated enough pumpkins so that each member of the faculty and staff as well as the students of the Elementary school received one. The pumpkins were donated in celebration of fall and the approaching Halloween holiday.
Huntley American   Legion  Auxiliary  Presents  Gifts
Through the generosity of the Huntley American Legion Auxiliary, our school and several of its students have received these gifts:
5 books were donated to the library in honor of the five Gold Star Mothers and Sisters: Fern Enstrom, Betty Rohlwing, Barbara Lohneis, Verna Borhart and Katherine Ewert.
Heather Jagman and Chad Warrington were awarded $100 each for their trip to
Washington, D.C.
$60.00 was donated to the Learning Center to purchase pictures
Each division of the library was donated $75.00.
Education Chairman for the Huntley Unit #673 is May Chesak, President being Josephine Czonstka.
Board  of Education
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District #158, Huntley Consolidated Schools, Huntley, Illinois was held in the High School building on Sept. 19, 1987 at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by Board President at 7:35 p.m. Upon roll call the following members answered present: Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Schadt, Mr. Heavey, Mr. Freeberg. Absent: Mr. Greve, Mr. Miller, and Mr. Bauman. All present joined in the pledge to the flag. 1. Mr. Freeberg moved, Mrs. Schadt 2nd to approve the minutes of the August 27 regular meeting as written.

Unit 673
October Sth meeting, we draped our charter for another deceased member, Joan Melahn, Joan was our Chaplain, Foreign Relations and Ways and Means, she will be remembered and missed. We are in search for a replace¬ ment to help with our Ways and Means. If you can offer any help and are an Auxiliary member we need you now, to help cook for the many occasions at our Legion Home. Also a reminder to you all again for good clean clothing donations, bring them to the Legion any day after 3:00 P.M. Shoes, coats, hats, ladies clothing also. We're having Vets from the Elgin Center here the 20th of October. Thats the day the clothing is distributed so please bring it in before the 20th.
