Regular Meeting January 28, 1987
The regular meeting of the Huntley Park District was called to order by President Tures at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 1987.  Present were Commissioners Tures, Jurs, Gurnett and Mercer (Olson was absent).  Also attending were Graham Knott, LeRoy Wirsing, Joanne Springman and Betsy Warrington.
A motion to approve the minutes of the December 17th meeting was made by Mr. Burnett, second by Mr. Tures. All commissioners voted aye and the motion carried.
Mrs. Mercer moved to accept the Treasurer's report, ^^ seconded by Mr. Gurnett.  All
^^B)        ayes and the motion carried.
The bills for the month were presented.  A motion to pay all bills was made by Mr. Gurnett, seconded by Mr. Tures.  All ayes and the motion carried.
The park has received 44 requests for reservations for this year.  Mr. Tures made a motion to approve these reservations, seconded by Mr. Jurs.  All ayes and the motion carried.
LeRoy Wirsing gave his report concerning vandalism, round-up purchase, insurance report, paint cabinet purchase and oil rag can.  He left the meeting.
Betsy Warrington reported on the June 28 Town Picnic, insurance meeting, recreation programs and reservations.
The board wishes to thank Harry and Margie Hughes for the tree donation for a Timer Bakely Memorial.
Mr. Jurs informed the board that Bakely Construction will donate one lot for an east side park entrance into. /Ol'Timers Park from Timer Drive.
After much discussion concerning Ol'Timer's Park, Mr. Jurs made a motion, second by Mrs. Mercer, to hire Harland Bartholomew to draw skematic planting plan and include electrical plans.  All ayes and the motion carried.
The board discussed the need for help for 1987 and the wage schedule.
Intern  Program
The lUionis Legislative Staff Intern Program is reminding anyone interested the deadline for applications is March 1.
The program, sponsored by the Illinois Legislative Research Unit and Sangamon State University, places 20 interns with various legislative staffs and the Research Unit.  The interns serve from Oct. 1 to Aug. 15 and receive eight hours of graduate credit from Sangamon State University plus a $1,200 Monthly compensation.

This program, now in its 25th year, provides outstanding individuals an opportunity to be actively involved in the policymaking of the Illinois General Assembly. This is a work experience program that benefits those with a wide range of interests and provides them with a first-hand view of government.
Candidates are screened by a committee from the Intern Sponsoring Committee. Finalists are interviewed by representatives of leadership staffs and the Legislative Research Unit.  The selected candidates will be announced in April.
Mrs. Mercer moved for adjournment, second by Mr. Gurnett.  The meeting was adjourned at 9:27 p.m.
These minutes are subject to approval by the board at their next regular meeting.

First  Grade  Celebrates  100th   Day
Valentineis Day
Pictured above is the first grade class of Huntley Elementary School celebrating the 100th Day of School.
The first graders in Mrs. Seyller's and Mrs. Lidinsky's room have been keeping count of every school day. They all decided that on the 100th day of school they would cele¬ brate. Wednesday, February 4th was lOO's day.
The celebration began with the children counting to 100 by I's, 6's and lO's. Those children received awards.
Awards were also given to the chidren who had attended school all 100 days. They were Nikki Hoist, Ben Lange, Stephen Lazenby, Katie Holtz, Becky Weber, Scott Stier, Megan Borhart, Molly Oldham and Nathan Soper.
A special lOO's day snack of milk and 100"s Day Chocolate Chip Cookies were enjoyed by the children.
To highlight this special day balloons were launched by all 58 first graders. Each child launched 2 balloons. Attached to one balloon was the childs home address and attached to the other was the school address. The children are eagerly awating the arrival of any letters saying that their balloon was found. As of Tuesday, February 10th Jessica Miller's balloon was already found in Glenwood, II.
Special thanks to Peggy Holtz of Gilberts and "Happy Air" for teaching the children about Helium.
Huntley Soccer Registration Fe§.  21   &  28
Huntley Park Distric^Svill be holding it's Soccer Registration on Saturdays, Feb. 21 ic 28 at the office building in Deicke Park from 9:00 - 12:00.  We will be taking registrations for ages 6-18 (as of Dec. 1, 1987). Games are played on Saturdays, Apr. 11 - May 16. Some travel is involved as we play teams from Harvard, Woodstock ic Marengo in the Spring; Hampshire ic Belvidere join us in the Fall.  Home games and practices are held in Ol'Timer's Park on Church St.  Fee is $12.60 for Spring season or $20.00 for Spring ic Fall (Sept. 12 - Oct. 31). The fee includes a reversible mesh shirt.  $5.00 credit is given if you have a league shirt of your own.  WE NEED COACHES AND REFEREES!!! Historical Society
Beginning this month, the Historic Sites Committee of the McHenry County Historical Society will again be taking applications for the plaquing of historic sites and structures throughout the county.
To qualify, a site or structure must be at least one half intact and original.  The exterior of such a structure should show the original and recognizable nature of its design and purpose, i.e. school house, church, town hall, residence.  Sites will quality providing they are associated with an event, landmark, organization or person of significance to the history of McHenry County of 100 years ago.
To be considered by the Society, a petitioner must fill out an application and provide documentation to the Historic Sites Committee. Once approved, the Society awards a beautiful stainless steel plaque.  A $35.00 charge is made to the recipient for the plaque.
The Historical Society began its plaquing program in 1980 in an effort to encourage and recognize the preservation and restoration of local historical sites and structures.  To date 29 such plaques have been awarded. The Society hopes that this year as McHenry County celebrates its
Sesquicentennial that many will choose to take advantage of the program.
