Che Entitle^ Jarmsik USPS 580-360 THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 1988 ^ VOLUME 27-NUMBER 42 2 SECTIONS OFFICE PHONE 312-669-6621 SERVING THE PEOPLE OF HUNTLEY SINCE 1960 Huntley Planning Commission The regular monthly meeting of the Huntley Planning Commission was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Chairman Wilmer Rohlwing. Those members of the board present were Noel Hansmann, Robert Schachtner, Ron Hahn and Paul Mercer. Also present was Mayor Dhamer. The minutes of the December 14, 1987, meeting were read. Mr. Hansmann moved to accept the minutes as read. Mr. Hahn seconded. Motion carried. Mr. Jack Daum entered the meeting at this time. The first order of busineas was presented by Mr. Richard Sweeney concerning his two pieces of property on Route 47 at the end of Mullen Street. He presently has a contract to sell one piece, but cannot close until he obtains business zoning. He wishes to have both pieces rezoned from R-2 to B-3. The piecea of property are marked Lot 7 and 10. Mr. Daum aaked about a strip of property along east side of Route 47 owned by Union Special and how to go about getting them to release it. The Mayor aaid that the Calhoona tried to eliminate it by working with Union Special a few years ago, but Union Special decided they wanted to keep Continued on page 2 Mark Your Calendar HOBO Show Friday & Saturday March 11 & 12 American Legion Auxiliary The American Legion Auxiliary County guest night is Friday, February Sth - 6:30 dinner. President Josephine Czonstka Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby ^^s^f^v On January 23, 1988 the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby was held in Fellowship Hall at the First Congregational Church. Each Scout was given a Pinewood Derby car kit 3 to 4 weeks prior to Derby day. We had to carve a car of our own design and paint it. No car could weigh over 5 ounces. On Derby day we had to have our cars at Fellowship Hall by 12:00 for 12:30 racing time. Cars were flrst inspected , weighed and regiatered, then graphite was put on the wheels. All cars were then placed in the pit area until race time. Pitman Jimmy Origer watched over the cars so they were not bumped or handled by anyone, only the owner could carry the car to the track. No car was to be altered after placed in the pit area. Before the race began our guest speaker Dan Dacey, who is a race car driver, spoke to us about racing and he alao brought his race car for us to look at and sit in. Our Derby winners were: 5th Grade: lst place-gold medal-Scott Kothe, 2nd place-silver medal - Brian Hoist, Srd place-bronze medal-Derek Crabill 4th Grade: 1st place-gold medal-Matt Fruin, 2nd place-silver medal-Donny Goers, Srd place- bronze medal-Scott Strang . Srd Grade: 1st place-gold medal-Ryan Christiansen, 2nd place- silver medal-Pat Kearns, Srd place-bronze medal-Ty Barton 2nd Grade Continued on page IS 254 per copy Huntley Area Jaycees The Huntley Area Jaycees will be holding their next meeting on Thursday, February 4th at 8:00 p.m. at the American,Region Home in Huntley/ One topic of discussion silLibe the upcoming Las yfegas Night. / Jannette Evans, President of Ventura Associates, LTD. will be guest speaker. Her topic will be "Buying your first home". Ms. Evans will be available to answer any Real Estate questions. The public is welcome and re¬ freshments will be served. Shirt orders will be taken until February 4th for the yellow polo type Jaycee shirta. These shirts can be used anytime but especially for Jaycee events like the Las Vegas Night in March and the softball teams this summer. They sell for $13.00.
