Homecoming Festivities
Friday, Sept. 23rd was
definitely a day packed full
of excitement. The 1988 Homecoming Parade
took place at approximately
2 p.m. that busy Friday,
Homecoming King ic Queen, Dave
Miller ic Tracy Evans, were
near the head of the line -
with their court not far
behind. Floats were made by each
class. Seniors took first
place, Sophomores second
place, followed by the
Freshmen in third and Juniors
in fourth place. High School students
gathered  Friday evening around 7 p.m. at the school
for the traditional Homecoming Snake Dance, Immediately following the snake dance was a pep rally and bon-fire at the Huntley Football Field. Everyone stood in awe of the huge blaze.
Homecoming Day, Sept, 24th, arrived at last. Huntley Redskins played 2 football games against North Boone. Unfortunately, both games were lost, but our boys played hard that day. They may not have won, but they played well.
At halftime during the Varsity football game, the 1988 Homecoming King ic Queen and their court were introduced to the crowd of fans. The Huntley Redskins Marching Band entertained the crowd with some delightful tunes and moves.
1988 Homecoming Day came to a close with the Homecoming Dance that evening at the grade school gym.
Career Fair At  MCC
Representatives from more than one hundred colleges, universities, and the armed forces will be at McHenry County College on Thursday, October 6, for the 1988 College and Career Fair. The evening program begins at 6 p.m. and concludes at 9 p.m.
Area high school students, their parents, and anyone interested in attending college are invited to explore college and career Continued on page 3
Special Voter's Registration
For those who have not registered for the November Sth election or need to change their name or address, special registration hours will again be held at two di^erent locations.
On Saturday, October 1st, a registrar will again be at the Huntley American Legion from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
On the same day, October 1st, a registrar will be at the Coral Township office at Union, Illinois from I to 4 p.m. to register voters in the Union - Marengo area.
These special registration times are being held for the convenience of those who are unable to register during regular working houn.
King  &.   Queen Announced
The Huntley Redskins were really fired up at their pep assembly on Thursday afternoon, September 22nd. The Huntley spirit was really alive!
The climax of the assembly finally arrived when Mr. Goeglein, high school principal, asked the five queen nominees (of the senior court) to stand in the center of the gym floor. Then, Mr. Goeglein announced the 1988 Huntley Homecoming King's name - Dave Miller.
The king shot down from the bleachers to accept his newly appointed position. Dave Miller was then asked to move over to the five queen nominees, and kiss the new queen. The girls shook with anticipation awaiting the choice. The kiss fell upon Tracy Evans, Huntley's 1988 Homecoming Queen.

11th Annual Apple  Cider Festival At Historical Museum
Brisk air, trees of vibrant colors, and an uncontrollable urge to consume warm foods not only signals the arrival of fall but also heralds the Mrllenry County Historical Society's annual Apple Cider Festival on Sunday, October 2nd from 1:30 to 4:30.
Begun 11 years ago as a program to demonstrate the museum's antique apple press, its continuation each year gives visitors a chance to watch the cider being made, sample it, and imagine back to the early years of McHenry county history when each farm had its own orchard filled with such varieties as Yellow Bellflower, Sweet Bough, and Seek-no-further. Along with the cider, the Society provides donut holes to sample as well.
This year members of the Ways and Means Committee of the Society will be selling homemade apple foods, crafts, and cook books that celebrate ths Society's 25th year of operation. To highlight the afternoon's activities, a drawing will take plaee for the beautiful handmade 3' teddy bear tree made by Mrs. Frank (Josephine) Oakley of Marengo.
With the museum closing for the season at the end of October, few Sundays remain for a family visit. Artifacts ranging from antique farm equipment to beautiful quilts and coverlets, dolli and toys, tools and military items dating from the Civil War guarantee items of interest for all ages.
The McHenry County Historical Society's museum is located in Union, IL. and is also open on Wednesday afternoons. For the remainder of October free admission Sundays are scheduleid on October 9th for Grafton Township residents, October 16th for Coral Township residents, October 23rd for Seneca Township residents and October SOth for Hartland Township residents.
