SERVING THE PEOPUB OF UinmEY SINCE IMd ^~
HOBO SHOW A SUCCESS
The Chancel Choir of the First Congregational Church, under the direction of Luann Lamz, received a standing ovatkin for their performance at their 19th annual Hobo Show and Dinner.
The choir, after serving the delicious hobo beef stew ditmer, made their way to the stage singing "On the Road Again." Carl Hill, as "Earl", and his buddy Larry Warrington drove their eighteen wheeler tunefully cross country to Texas, transporting, the hobos and a load of chickens. Shelby Hill's solo "1 wanna go where you go" didn't get her anywhere and director Luann Lamz was left behind to sing "Out On My Own." Thehobo'srenditionof "Have You Ever Been Lonely" set the mood, only to be changed quickly by Larry and Betsey (that was Betsey?) Warrington's hilarious version of "In the Mood." "It's Hard to Be Humble" was the next song by the hobos, followed by the male members of the group singing "Elvira. "Deb Pierce was next as "Second Hand Rose" and then Larry Watrington got the group safely through "Wolf Creek Pass" with "Earl's" skillful handling of the eighteen wheeler. As the truck passed through a tunnel, the hobos lit up their "bottles" with flashlights as they played "Deep in the Heart of Texas." Mary Lou (Granny) Hardy enticed the senk>r set with her superb version of "When rm64."
After unloading in Texas, the hobos asked those "Country Roads" to take them home, but not before the trio of Mark Carlock, Steve Parisek and Dale Anderson tried their hand as "Ragtime Cowboy Joes" to the delight of the young ladies present. The hobos sang a tribute to a friendly truckstop waitress called "Lucille" before the truck halted for a time to drop off the famous "Hobo" door prizes to lucky members ofthe audience. Sherry Payne found herself being foUowed by a friendly cow as she tried out her "Cattle CaU" before the hobos made it "Back Home Again."
