EXECUTIVE SESSION 13. ADJOURNMENT WADDELL TELLS ABOUT STOP LIGHT AT 47 & MAIN State Rep. R. Bruce Waddell (R-Dundee) today announced an agreement between railroad officials and the Illinois Depart¬ ment of Transportation related to the contruction of traffic signals at the junction of Illinois Rt. 47 and Main Street in Huntiey. Rep. Waddell said the agree¬ ment will allow the traffic signals to interconnect with railroad signals near the inter¬ section, and is a major step in completing the project. Rep. Waddell said the tri^c signals at the intersection, extremely close to the railroad tracks, will automatically tum red whenever a train approaches the nearby crossmg. The 33rd District lawmaker added that contivcts for the installation ofthe signals will be ready for an August bid letting date, and said the Dept. of Transportation expects that time-table to be met. Rep. Waddell pointed out the apparent delay in reaching the agreement was partially due to the design of the complex circuitry for the double crossing and the fire pre-emptive signal systems: He said there was no problem related to funding the project since the railroad is not participating in the cost. "These improvements should meet all safety concems at that particular intersection in Hunt¬ ley," Rep. Waddell com¬ mented. "New, high visibility flashing light signals have just been installed on the railroad crossing as part of the highway project on Rt. 47. Addition of the traffic signals should pro¬ vide a high safety level and a smooth flow of traffic. I'm pleased contracts will be bid before the end ofthe summer," Rep. Waddell concluded.
