Library News
Illinois is divided into library districts. Huntley schools are included in the Northern Illinois Library System (NILS). Their . territory has 59 established libraries. The largest library in this system is the City Library of Rockford, population 139,712. The smallest library shown on a 1985 statistics chart is Maple Park, a village of 637 population. The libraries in this system that surround Huntley are Hampshire, Marengo and Woodstock. Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Dundee and Gilberts belong to the North Suburban System.
Northern IlUnois Library System provides many services to established libraries. If the Huntley School District had a public library located in Huntley, we would receive these benefits. NILS is located in Rockford. They maintain direct trucking to
all libraries in their system providing them with a wide variety of services.
These services are listed on seven typewritten, pages. A few are:
*Circulation system, access to books and microfilms it they are not available at the local library *System-wide lists of magazines with over 5,000 titles that can be checked out by local libraries *3 full-time librarians to locate requested reference materials
Talking books, braille services for blind and handicapped
Audiovisual services and equipment loan to member libraries for their use
All of this and much more is avaiiable, but w© need to establish a public library for our community before it can be available for us to use.
