The parade proceeded to the Hmitley Cemc»*ry w*iere the fol¬ lowing program was held: Invoca¬ tion by Dr. Rev. Fred Harm, Solo, Mr. Wm. Le Gee, Speaker, Mr. Art Tryell, In p'anders Field, EllzabetSi Manmng, National Anthem, Hunt¬ ley High School Band. Firing Squad, Taps, Benediction, Rev. Dr. Fred Harm. Follo-wing the observance in Hunt¬ ley, lunch was served at the Ameri¬ can Legion Home. Memorial Day observances have been a part of the American scene for more than 100 years. Comman¬ der Schultz explained. In 1868, Gen¬ eral lohn A Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic issued bis his¬ toric order for such an observance which established the tradition of public ceremonies "to respect com¬ rades Who died in defense otf Iheir aiuntry." For many years after the Civil War, The GAR in the North and the Confederate Veterans in the South took charge of Memorial Day services in their respective commim- ities. When these organizations be¬ came unable to carry on actively these rites (which include the de¬ coration of all known vetercm grave sites). The Amerioan Legion pledged its help to the penietuation of the annual observance of Memorial Day, Commar*der Schultz explained. Commander Schultz thanks all who helped make the day a success HPD Swimming Program Beginfung August 6 thru 17tti at Elgin Academy inside pooL There are two sessions: 1st group 9:00 - 1015 and 2nd group 10:30 - 12:00. The charge is $10.00 per student and includes bus transportation, les¬ sons, and tree swimming. 1st group are ages 7 to 10. 2nd group ages 10 to 15. Bus leaves C)i>BliMied on Page Two SWIMMING PROGRAM 4 Firemen Needed Meeting June Srd Huntley's Fire Chief, Phil Freund, announced today thait 4 additlMud firemen are needed to boost the departmeat to 28 men.
