The progrem is conducted by the University of Illinois in Urbana. Offioer Thomas completed 240 hours <A instruoticm attaining a final grade avers^e of 97.98. He was selected as the recipient of the Enrin H. Warren award, given for excellence in com- pletrng -the traandng course. As plaited in a letter from the program's director Vem L. PoUey, "Selection to receive the award represents a recognition whim oertaMy was well earned. AJ has been In Scouting in Huntley for tho past 10 yean, serving on the troop committee for many of those ycars^ In November 1973 be became the Scoutmaster for Troop 167. Recently the young men of his troop had the above portrait made for lilm. It is said to b« one of his prized possessions. Among tbe high points of his career as Scoutmaster were 3 Scouts at¬ taining the rank of Eagle Scoot His son, Shane, was one of them. At hte Northwoods, bis troop was presented with a canoe paddle for "Extraordinary achievement in Scouting Spirit" which was a first for the HunUcy Scouts. Hia troop was awarded a plaque from the Galena Chamber of Commerce for being an outstanding troop - competing for the best dressed out of a parade of more than 10,000 scouts. During be last two years, scouting has been busy with ancake break¬ fasts, spaghetti suppers, bratwurst sales and paper drives. His troop held campouts, canoe trips, campfires, camping, church services and many more. Alfle will surely lie missed but liis fine standard will long be carried aa.
