Darltf CUsctett 7 ceniB per Huntley American Legion Celebrates Birthday Mayor & Bea Shivareed Huntley Cubs Hold Pinewood Derby The Huntley American Legion held their 53rd annual Birthday Dinner at Hhe American Legion Home last Saturday, March llth. BoHowing a deiioious roast beef dinner served by the ladies of Lutheran Church, e short program was presented. During the pnogmm, 33 membership pins were awarded to members of the Huntley pest for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of continuous memberslup. A large cake was cut by the lifetime mem¬ bers of the post who included Leon Olhaber, Bill Hubby, and Harry Weltzien, aU World War I veter¬ ans iHid Don Enstrom, a veteran of Wortd War II. The guest speaker for the cveMiiK was past department commander Russ Bieritz of Geneva. A speciai award was given to Mazie Blott for her work in promoting the goals of the American Legion since 1941. The award was a surprise to Mrs. Blott and was presented by Mrs. Arnold Chesak. The program cotv eluded with a presentation from Jim Manning ajias Barney Fife to How¬ ard Ruth. Tiie award was a large framed picture of Howard's "obese girlfriend" in a bikini, the bikini be¬ ing affixed by Mr. Manning prior to the presentateon. Following the program. A dance was held fear Uming music by Ralph & Eddie's band. A shivaree wse held in Huntley last Sunday night March 12th at Huntley Legion for Village Presi¬ dent Wilpault Brill and his bride Beatrice Ream. Ihe Couple had just returned from thedr honeymoon and were apprehended at the Village limits by a detachment of Hunt¬ ley's Keystone Oops. Hustled ofX m tihe 1928 International Harvester Paddywagon with red lights flash¬ ing and sioeos blaring, the couple was taken to the Legion Hall and parade at gim point in front of Father Eddie'Maher. Following the ceremony another shotgun wed(fing was performed this time between Jim Manning, alias Barney Fife and Roger "Clipper" 0(dc. The diivaree lasted well into the moming hours with tfae Keystone Cops taking prac¬ tically everyione into custody at one time or another and driving them around town in tfae 1928 truck. The evening ended with the wives of the Kops taldng their iwbbies fc«- a ride around the Village Square in the ancient vdhlcle. Music was provided for the affair by a thre©- pie(^e band. In addition to the shotgun weddings, a his and her giamny nxiker was presented to the Mayor and his bride. The aiffair was well attended by those from Huntley and surrounding communi¬ ties including the Mayors of Hamp¬ shire, Union, Gilberts. Woodsitock. and Mt;Henry. Members 6f the Key- '^"""^tan^l^Mfa incduded Max «iaidganl, Phai Freimd, Jim S<hultz, h^orm Brettschneider and Floyd Seeman. A good time was had by all and refieshments were served. The Shivaree was planned by Grafton Township Supervisor How¬ ard Ruth and came as a oompiete surprise to the Mayor and his bride. 4-Wheel Drive Truck for Fire Department School Menu Menu Week of 3-20 -24 Monday — Bar-B-Que, buttered com, potato chips, yellow cake wiifa raspberry topping, milk. "Tuesday — roa.st beef and gnavy, mashed potetoes, vege*ables, apple¬ sauce, buttered bread, milk. Wednesday — Soup with crack¬ ers, tomatto or chicken noo(fle, sandwiches - tuna or peanut butter and jelly, dessert milk. Thursday / Italian LaSagna, let¬ tuce salad with Russian dressing, buttered French bread, fnrit, milk. Friday — Macaroni and cheese, buttered green beans, liuttered bread, vanilla ice (n^eem or orange pus ups, milk. Huntley bas a four wheel drive fire tmck. The used International truck has been driven only 9,000 miles. It will be used primarily f(M- limiting grass fires and getting to ordinarily inaccessible places. One of the features af the truck, unique to fine fighting equipment, is that tfae unit pumps water while movink. The truck has a 500 gallon per minute pump, which according tlo fire chief Philip Freund is a rather large pumpdng capacity. He stated that the unit will be able to supply water from lakes, swiirumng pools, creeks, rivers and hydrants to Hunt¬ ley's other fire fitting equiianent keeping them at maximum capacity. The Chief stated that the district will be purchasing additional equip¬ ment to keep Huntley's fke insur¬ ance rates down. New hose has recently been purchased as well as a new inhalator resuscitator. Mothers Invited To Scout Meeting We wouAd, like to invite tbe mlolfa- ens of our HunUey Girl Scouts and anyone who is interested in fteding out more about Girl Scouting to a meeting that will be held on Tues¬ day, March 21st, at <the Lutheran Church at 7:30 in the evening. We will discuss tiaining pro¬ grams, up-coming activities in our doundl and oommunity and ways of working together to keep Giri Scouting running smoothly in Hunt¬ ley. We will have a cr^ deman- stration and refreshments will be served. We feel h would be to your advantage and ours If you attend our meeting to better under the Giri Sdout movement from tfae adult leaders point of view. Htmtley Pack 167 held their pack meeting March 9th with tiie Pine¬ wood Derby races being bdd. There was lots ot excitement and enthu¬ siasm as tfae scouts arrived and checked in thein cars. Each scout with the help of has father, (»rved cut his car from a block of pine wood. The races were held by dens and tiie whixier from each den went on to Hhe finals for the trophies. The winners are as follows: Den 1 — Ted Koppie, 1st; Jim¬ my Wilhams, 2nd; Chris Colliite, 3rd. Den 2 — Danny Koopmnns, 1st; BU Mai«n, tnA, David Sewer, 3nl. Den 3 — Doug WM, 1st; Robert Fnank, 2nd; Ricky Shotliff, 3rd. Den 4 — Warren Coip, l^ Steve Morrow, 2nd; Dale Workowski, Wehelos — Tom Koppie, 1st; Evin Skytte, 2nd; Derails Foutch, 3id. Finals for trophy —• lst place, Ted Koppie and 2nd Ptece, Tom Koppie. Excellence in Craft trophy went to Chris Raymond. Uniform Inspeotion was held with Chief Nelson »id Roger Oole being the inspectors. The scouts received a very good rating from Chief Nel¬ son and Roger Cole. Awards were presented by Bob Seaver.
