Ttuck - Train Accident At Mill
On Friday, March 19th at 10:45 .i.m., a truck driven by Joseph J. ker>ch, 60, of 103 Crescent Road, Fox River Grove, HI., collided wifch a Chicago & Northwestern engine ¦and train driven by Walter Nummer. 46, at the Mill Street comer in Hunt¬ leyy. According to a Huntley police rejiort Rench stated that he did not see the train approaching. He con¬ tinued tbat he heard the train whistle an(^ nwde a sharp turn to lihe right The left front of his cab collided vdth tbe right front and side of the en¬ gine which was traveling in a south¬ easterly direction.
He stated 'Chat he had his tractor in second gear as he had just stop¬ ped at the Dean's Milk plant, west Ol the tracks on Mill Street. He said that iJic side tractor windows were dirty due to muddy water being .splashed on them due to the rear Uaclor wheels.
The Mill Street crossing has a sign rather than a gate or flashing licht, A railro.id sign ccsting $150.00 was knocked down dursng the ac¬ cident. No tickets were issued by the Huntley Police Dep.ortment. An estimated $350.00 damage was done to the 1970 International tractor owned by Dairy Transportation Inc., Iku-ringfton, IW. Ati e^^inwlcd $200.00 damage was done to the en^^ines.
