'Ibe Sth and 6Ab ^ode Rx>yials won their two final g^^nes di the regular season this past week, cap¬ turing the Tri-County Conference title for tho second consecutive sea¬ son. The Royals defeated St Pat¬ rick of St. Charles on the home court last Monday night 32-23. On Thursday night, they traveled to St Edward High Sdiool in Elgin to play St. Thomas More of Elgin and won big, 49-15.
The Royals led by a close 11-8 score at the first half's end. The Royals outdualed the Irish 14-6 to 'take a 25-14 third quanter lead. The Iri.sh out-scored the Royals in the final .s1.anza, but the Royals went on to win 32-23. Mike Lovins and Dave SclwchtncT led the 3r>ung Royals in scoring with 13 and 10 points respectively. Jim Goehl add¬ ed 7 points to Royal attack while Rusty T.ovin.s dropped in a basket.
In tho Riiyr.l-St. Thomas dual, the Royals pained tho early lead, build- irg up an lS-5 first quarter score. The Royoh led .^1-7 at halftime and coasti'd to their champion&hip- clinching vic'ory. Dave Sohachtnei' ."spearheaded the RoyaJ ^tack with 18 poinits, c-innecting on 9 of 21 shots. Mike Lovins and Jim Goehl add eel 8 points each and Scott Ne¬ permann pitched in with 4 points. Adam Brunschon, Rick Wenzdt, Dave Seaver, Ted Koppie, and Rus¬ ty Lovins all had 2 points each ana Steve Hari.sek added a free throw.
