Our letter dated September 30 explained why the department has been unable to approve the installation of four-way stop control on ]4oute 47 at Main Street in Hontley. Actually 4-way stop control, dur¬ ing a busy period is much more hazardous for pedestrians. Drivers are so involved watching other dri¬ vers and making sure they get their turn that oedestrians are overlooked. It is also confusing for pedestrains because some drivers turn left, others right, so it is diffi¬ cult to watch all posible move¬ ments. The Manual, however, sete up various requiremenU both in traf* flc voltjmes and other considerate^ ions. By statewide observance ot ee Mtfn^l we are able to main- in more or less uniform signing and marking. There wiuld be con¬ siderably more confask>n and less voluntary cooperation by motorisU if each community was permitted to establish their own traffic con¬ trols, regulations and system of signs. Your interest and concern in this matter is appreciated. Very truly yours, J. H. Dinkheller District Engineer By Fred C. Mason Dlftrict Traffic Snglhen:
