District Essay Winner
Diana Diehl, daughtei^f Mr. and Mrs. Robert R, SchultjL^. Main St. is shown as she rece'^ place winning award essay contest on "GrrJ of Freedom." Present' is Mrs. Mabel Schultz,! Chairman, and Hedy Leonard, local president  of the   Legion   Auxiliary.
Diana was 1st place in the local contest with her essay which was sent in for further competition. This is the 1st time in several years that a Huntley girl has won honors In this contest in district competition. Diana was a 7th grade student at the time of the contest.
Y-Ds Met
The mounthly meeting of the Young Democrats of icHenry Co¬ unty met June 11 at^he Huntley Bowling   Alley.
With much enthuslam, plans for the YD iConv«ntion In iDecatur, June 19, 20, 21; were discussed. Herbert H. Franks of Union is a candidate for president of the YD's of Illinois. Names of nine delegates to the convention were presented to Terry West, president of the YD  of  McHenry  County.
Mr. West announced a motorcade will be formed on Sunday, June 14, to travel to DeKalk for their ann¬ ual YD Picnic and then on to the Pines in Oregon, III. for a picnic of the YD of Ogle County.
Village Board
The regular meeting of the Vil¬ lage Board was held on June 4, with President Wilpoult Brill presiding. All members were present except L.  Ackman.
Bills were read and ordered paid.
A delegation from the Bakley subdivision was present to discuss improvements on their streets. These improvements will be made by the  contractor.
The board voted to purchase a new squad car for the Police Dept. from Ben Hansford Chevrolet who submitted the low bid. The new car will be white with black letter¬ ing, will be equiped with a V-8 en¬ gine, stick shift and two way radio.
There being no further business, the   meeting  was adjourned.
Lions Club Chichen Bar-B-€l
The Annual Lions Club Chicken Bar-B-Q, held at the Huntley Fire Barn on Sunday, June 14, was another very successful affair for the local club. Moderate weather with slightly overcast skies added to the comfort of those who served and the rain, which came late In the day did not hinder the activit¬ ies.
Serving   began   at   11   a.m.   and
continued until after 3 p.m. Res¬ idents coming from the west side of the village reported that tht fra¬ grance of the chickens cooking over charcoal was wafted to their homes as they sat enjoying late breakfast.
More than 700 people were In attendance. The funds realized from this venture will be used for civic projects   in   the community.
Bault Assoc. Honor   Banhe!^
Arthur H. Resser, Vice President of the First National Bank of Elgin, was elected president of the Du- Kane-Dekalb chapter of NABAC, the Association for Bank Audit, Control and Operation at the group's June Meeting at Cress Creek Country Club,  Naperville.
Other Officers are Vive President Harry Benson, assistant vice pres¬ ident and cahier, State Bank of St. Charles; secretary Lourei T. Batt, comptroller and assistant sec¬ retary, Elmhurst National, and treasurer R. L. Bankes, Cashier, State Bank of Huntley.
The new officers will take office July 1.
DuKane-DeKalb's NABAC chapt¬ er belongs to a national organiz¬ ation ' along with more than 6,500 other banks which is dedicated to finding better ways of operating banks.

Laurence F. Joh'ifjn, and Daniel Cassens, Dixon, l^|^ been selected as declpients of WoO Green Giant Fondationdation Agricultural Sch¬ olarship at the University of Illinois for the school year 1964-65. L.««y*rttffls'the son of Mr. A Mrs. Melvin L. Johnson. He graduated fourth in his class of 31 students at Huntley High School. He has 5 years of 4-H work and 2 years of vocational agriculture. In F.F.A. he participated In nuiurous judging contests, parllamehwry procedure and won the scholarship award. His Instructor Is Mr. Donald C. Barrett. He participated in athlet- Ice, was Freshman Class President, Sophomore Student Council repre¬ sentative, and Senior Class Vice President. He also served as secre¬ tary and president of the Future Teachers Association.
Larry will  enter the   U. of   I.  in September.
Six To State F.F.A. Conv.
Ken Bakley, Ken Kopsell, Craig Johnson, Lonnie Millerman, Sid Sherwin, and Vernon Tinberg had the privilege of attending the State F.F.A. Convention with F.F.A. Ad¬ visor, Donald Barrett.
Craig Johnson and Lonnie Mill¬ erman had the honor of serving as delegates for the Huntley Chapter. As a delagate, I met the ew and former State and National Officers.
The Convention was a great suc¬ cess. We nominated new state offi¬ cers. Nel Ackman from Indiana, the National F.F.A. President and Joe Coyne', from Illinois, the Nat¬ ional F.F.A. Vice President, were both present. They each gave a speech to the convention and one of the main factors that was ex¬ pressed by both of them was to al¬ ways think on the positive side of everything. Hearing all those won¬ derful speeches from every one made me want to go ahead, too.
Many high awards were presented to deserving boys. Walter Hoffman of Huntleywon a F.F.A. jacket for Dairy Production, which was do¬ nated by Northern Illinois Breed¬ ing Co-op. Allen Heimsoth won State  Farmer Degree.
This convention was very educat¬ ional in many ways. By obserwt- Ing, we learned more about parlia¬ mentary procedure and more about planning a better farming program.
Speaking for all of the boys, we would like to thank the <FjF.A. Chapter for sending us to the State F'.F.A.  Convention.

Bond Issue Defeated
The school bond election held June 13, 1964 on a proposal to build a new school building and issue $?50,000.00 in bonds resulted In 118 votes for the proposal, 159 votes against   the   proposal.
The votes on the proposition to increase the annual educational tax rate were:   108 "Yes" 164 "No".
The tortal number of votes cast was 280. Total number of spoiled ballots, 2. Total number of mixed ballots, 25.
School Board Meeting Held
The Huntley School Board met Wednesday, June 13, 1964. The min¬ utes were read and approved.
lit was anounced that there are six (6) used Royal typewriters for sale. These 1957 models have a trade-in value of $80.00 each. If anyone in the community would like to purchase one at this price, please contact Mr. Kelly at the high school and arrange to see them. There is :• waitimg list of four peo¬ ple who will have preference.
It was also announced that there is an 18 tiu. Ft :Hotpolfit Rsfrifler- ator with freezer space on the bot¬ tom and storage shelves on the door. This refrigerator is for sale for $297.00 (worth $500.00). Please call Mr. Kelly at the high school (669-5171) if you are Interested In seeing and purchasing this refrig¬ erator.
The Board transferred money to the Imprest Fund, according to law. They also transferred $3973.51 from the Building Fund to the Bond ond tnterest Fund. Interest on the Building of $6161.25 was also  paid.
A Treasurers' Bond of $50,000.00 was purchased for  Mrs, MtchSlson.
A motion was approved to hire Bradley and Bradley to conduct the Building Code Safty Survey, as re¬ quired  by the State  of  Illinois
The Horace Mann Company Stu¬ dent Isurance was approved again for next year. Last year we had 53 claims, of which 46 have been set¬ tled  to  date.
The Agriculture Advisory Conv mittee Report was also read and discussed.
The State Supervisors' report was read. The report was given to Mr. Quin O'Brien who attended the meeting. It was published in last week's   Farmside.
A motion was made and approv¬ ed to pay the bills as listed.
The meeting was adjourned.

The big news from the Auxiliary Convention at Cdystal take waa the many awards received by t.u- cllle Koch, the Veterans Craft Choirman of the local unit. As the Picture shows, she won several awards.

1st. Annual Svtnday Club Picnic
The Sunday morning club held their first annual picnic laat Sun¬ day, June 14, In a wood* In Riley townahip. Approximately 160 peo¬ ple   attended   the   affair.   Bar-e-Q
chicken, a pot luck dinner and re¬ freshments ware sarvetf.
Following the dinner, the group played volley ball, baseball, horse¬ shoes or chatted with friends.
