Election Scheduled for Oct. 2 A special election will be held on Saturday, October 2, to decide whether or not a park district shall l)e established in the Huntley aroa. The election is the result of a hearing held on Tuesday, Auprust :!1, in the Circuit Court of Mc¬ Henry County. 'i'he area to be voted upon will include that portion disconnected from the Grafton Township Park District several months ago, plus approximately one mile into Coral township and approximately one mile into Rutland township. Introducing New Teachers Joining the High School staff at Huntley Consolidated School this year are the following: Mr. Joseph Manning, teaching English II and III, Latin I (added to curriculum this year), and Wor¬ ld History, received his B. A. de¬ gree from St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota and has done graduate work at Elgin Communi¬ ty College and N. I. U. He pre¬ viously taught for one year at St. Mary's and five years at St. Ed¬ ward's in Elgin. Mr. and Mrs. Manning and adughter reside on North Myrtle Street in Huntley. Mr. Jon Merritt, a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan at Bloomington with a B. A. degree, is teaching English I, Spanish land II, and Speech (added to curriculum this year); and has done additional work at the University of Illinois and Arizona State University. Mr. and .Mrs. Merritt are residing in the Ray Kelley apartments on Coral Stieet. Mrs. Merritt wUi-be teaching music in the ^°^n schools. Mr. Don Rodgers of Toledo, Illi¬ nois, Vo Ag I, II, III and IV in¬ structor, holds a B. A. degree/" -m Southern Illinois Universi^ at Carbondale, and has done work toward a Master's at the Universi¬ ty of Illinois. He has previously taught at Meridian and Toledo; is single and lives in Elgin. Elementary and High School in¬ strumental and vocal music in¬ structor is .Mr. Robert Tirk of Boston, Massachusetts, a 1905 graduate of Lowrence in Apple- ton, with a B. M. degree. Mr. Tirk se^ed in the Appleton Public schools parttime; and his wife is teaching vocal music in Woodstock .schools. The Tirks arc living in the Kalsow apartments on East Main Street. New Elementary teachers are: Mrs. Adrienno Hamm, kinder¬ garten, from LaGranke Park, is a 190)5 graduate of N. I. U. with a B. S. degree. She was recently married and is residing in DeKalb, where her husband, Russell, is continuing his studies. .Mr. Laarry Svab, 7th and Sth grade Social Studies, attended Eu¬ reka College and Western Illinois University. He has had four years to teaching in Union and Marengo, and is rooming at Mrs. Rossman's on South Myrtle Street. .Mrs. Gloria Christensen, Grade IB, recently moved to Hampshire with her husband and two children She attended Munrelein College and received her B. A. from De- Paul University. She previously taught for six years in Franklin Park and River Grove. Mrs. Nancy Rockwell, Grade IC of Lake Marion, Illinois, attended Rockford College and has had 2 years experience at Whighill School in Rockford, and 3 years at Coleman School in Elgin. Mrs. Rockwell has a daughter, and her husband is employed at Chicago Rawhide in Elgin. Bankes Cashier State Bank of Huntley has returned from two week's attendance at the Graduate School of Banking ut the University of Wisconsin, Madison, August 15-28, 1965. This was his second year at the School, which requires two week' resident at¬ tendance each year for three years to earn the certificate of graduation. Between resident ses¬ sions, students are required to do extension work involving prob¬ lems in all phases of banking. The School is sponsored by the Central States Conference, com¬ posed of bankers' associations in 16 midwestem states. Attendance this year will approximate 1,300 bankers from about 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Central America, with ranging from junior officers and department managers to presidents, vice presidents, and Continued on page 3 Harry Purdotn Sells Mr. and Mrs. Harry Purdom have sold the Huntiey Certified Supermarket to Donald McCollum. The Purdoms took over the Hunt¬ ley Grocery store in April 1953 and have served the Huntley com¬ munity for the past 12'/4 years. During that time they enlarged the store and remodeled it twice, adding the autimated checkout counter. The transfer of ownership took place on Tuesday, August 31. Mr. and Mrs. Purdom plan to go into sonii-retirement. They own sever- f al farms in northem Illinois. Mr. McCollum ha.s had 13 years of experience in the grocery busi¬ ness in the A & P Store in Men¬ dota, Illinois. He is married, his wife is Loma Mae. They have 3 daughters Cindy 10, Connie 8 and Lorrie 5. At the present time Mr. McColl- man is renting a room and looking for a place for him and his family to live.
