Legion Auxiliary Welcomes New Members Se\en new members of the American Legion Auxiliary were welcomed into the Legion in a beautiful candlelight ceremony last Monday. January 8, 1962. Thirty people were present, 27 members and three guests. Following a brief meeting, slides were shown of last summer's carnival parade in Huntley,the state legion parade in Chicago, the legion parade in Denver, Col., and also sliides of the Garden of the Gods in Col The slides were shown by George Willis and Ron¬ ny Stading. Following the slides, refresh¬ ments were served b>' hostesses Lois Hammond and Fern Enstrom. Fire At J, Schultz Farm At 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, January 9, 1962, Huntley's firemen were called out to the Jay Schultz farm which is 1 mile North and west of HtiTTtley on Union Road across on Union Road across from the Pine Tree Stables. The firemen were called out to extinguish a barn fire. However, when they arrived the barn had burned beyond saving. Pictured elsewhere in this paper can be seen pictures of what was left of tho barn at 2 p.m. Two silos were also destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. It is said that 150 pigs were burned in this firo. However, we have no way of confirming this. Bank Sponsers Social Security Day Bank & Paper Promote This week the Huntley Farm- side with the cooperation of the State Bank of Huntley printed 500 extra copies of this edition of the paper. The 500 extra copies will be distributed to tho employees of the various companies listed on the State Bank of Huntley's full back page of the paper. The State Bank of Huntley and tho Huntley Farmside are doing this this week only in the hope that some of the out of town em¬ ployees of these factories will be¬ come a little more acquainted with the town in which they work. Janet Ahrens, an employee of the State Bank of Huntley. Hiss Ahrens is passing oat some information regarding the social secarlty program which the State Bank of Huntley is sponsoring. For some time now the State Bank of Huntley has been presenting a display of things of interest around town. The first was a display of John McCormack's art work followed by a display of the calendars which the bank has bad over a period of years. Some of these date back to the early 19 (Ks. The present social security display pictured above WBs placed in the bank y the social security office in Elgin. On January 27, the State Bank of Huntley will sponsor a social security day. Everyone Is invited. Dog & Auto City Licenses Available Chief Kenneth Fay of the Hunt¬ ley police department announced today that the Huntley vehicle tax licenses and dag tags are at the Village Hall and may now be pur¬ chased by automob:ile and dog owners. Chief Fay went on to say that the vehecle licenses are to be dis¬ played in the right lower corner of th windshield of automobiles and trucks He also said that ac¬ cording to state law it is illegal to put any other typo of decal on the front windsehield. The deadline for purchasing ve¬ hicle licenses stickers is March 1. On March 2 Chief Fay said that ho wouldl begin ticketing cars which do not have the vehich? license tax sticker displayed in the proper portion of the wind¬ shield. A 50c late charge will be had from those who violate this law. The deadline for getting dog lic¬ enses is May 1. Chief Fay made an urgent request to motorists to please not park their cars on the streets on days when there is a snow fall requiring the use of the snow removal truck. Chief Fay said that if car owners will co¬ operate with snow removal de¬ partment hat roads will be cleared much sooner. FIRE! On Huntley Farm Boy Scout Winter Outing The Huntley bo>- scouts wont out on a winter outing last Saturday January 6. to Lake in the Hills. When the heavy snow began to fall the ten scouts and their leader, Barney Shott returned to Huntloy and spent the night at the boy scout cabin in tho woods South of the school. Mr. Shott re|X)rted to us that much was learned about winter camping by the scouts, and the campout was a success even if the snow did ruin their plans for Lake in the Hills. Bank Announces The Board of Directors of the State Bank of Huntley announces that, effective immediately, the maximum legal rates of interest will be paid on all savings deposits. We will be paying 4"}f- interest on dfepisits of 12 months, and 3'i'/r on deposits of 6 months. This de¬ cision follows tho recent action by the Board of Governors of tho Federal Reserve System, raising the limit on the permisable rate which Banks may offer. Ml- Austin was a Will County farm boj' from Willmington. He attended Normal University and tho University of Illinois. Before oomint? to onr county as manager at the A.S.C. office in 1959 Mr Austin was a vocational agricul¬ ture teacher in Illinois. Meeting time is 8:00 p.m. at the Huntley High School agriculture doF)artment.
