Library Progress Reported
Response to the petitions for or¬ ganizing a Huntley Library Dis¬ trict was tremendous: 22 volun¬ teer workers turned in to the Community Service Committee 24 petitions containing 291 valid sig¬ natures. This would indicate that there i.s a definite desire for libra¬ ry service in this community.
These petitions, together with a plat map of the district, have t)een turned over to the Committee's legal counsel, Mr. Henry Wells, who will formally present them to the County Judge, the Honor¬ able James H. CJooney. From there on the fate of this venture awaits action on the part of Judge Coon¬ ey. A public hearing will need to be held, following which the Judge can order an election to be held. With the overwhelming support indicated by the petitions the Com¬ mittee feels that the election will be speedily ordered and that con¬ tinuation of our library service can be assured.
Following a successful election Judge Cooney will appoint six per¬ sons to the inital Board of Libra¬ ry Trustees. The Community Serv¬ ice Committee will need to make recomendations for these posts so ¦they are interested in hearing from arty person who would be interested in servING as a Libra¬ ry Trustee. The Committee also ia accepting volunteers to ict as Sec¬ tion judges when this is ordered. Any persons interested in helping in these ways can make their of¬ fers to the Committee through Mrs. Lima Tessendorf (669-3615) or Lawrence Perkins (669-3531).
