Doughnut Day
The Salvation Army has been ! given official permission to hold its annual tag dag, "Doughnut Day," ; in Huntiey on Friday, June 9.
Police Officer Morris Kiefer has notified "Doughnut Day" H*id- quarters of the Village Board's ap¬ proval, reports Mrs. Earl O. Ehr¬ hardt of Elmhurst. suburban area chaii-man for the area-wide tag day.

The Northern Illinois University Concert Choir, under the direction ot Dr. V. Fay, a lonner uxofessor of Mr. Perley, presented an tissem- bly upon May 8, 1961, at 2:08 p.m., at the Huntley Cons. School Gym. The public was cordially invited to atend thies assembly, as well as students cf grades seven through twelve.
The 70 voice concert group pre¬ sented: "My Dancing Day," "Carol Of The Drum," "Send FortH Thy Spirit." "Salvation Is Created," •Methinks I Hear Thhe Full Celes¬ tial Choir" (featuring the baritone section). "Now Thank We All Our God," "Sinner, Please Don't Let This Harvest Pass," "Beauty In Humility." "My Heart's Desire," "Alleluia," "My Drum Is Of An Island Place," "Afterglow." and 'All You Need Ls A Song."
Five students of McHenry Coun¬ ty were represented in the 70 voice choir; one of these five students represented Huntley Consolidated Schools, a former graduate, Chris¬ tine Kahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Kahl.
The Concert Choir has appeared in such places as Chicago's Or¬ chestra Hall, WREX-TV in Rock¬ ford. the Rockford Symphony Or¬ chestra; the choir also has record¬ ed tapes and recordings that have been used for various functions. Records aro available through the Northern Illinois University Alum¬ ni A.ssoeiation if persons wish to purchase recordings of the group's musical productions.

Village Board Notes
The first meeting of the new Huntley Village Board under the direction of President Wilpault Bl-IH was caH«* to order last Thursday, May 4, at the Huntley Village Etoard. All members were present.
The village board re-appointed the fololwing members to the fol¬ lowing positions: Florence Mickel¬ sen, Treaisurer; Betty Zirk, Collec¬ tor; Baxter & Woodman, Engineer; Ira Reed, Building inspector; Hen¬ ry Cowlin, Village Attorney; Ken¬ neth Fay, Chief of Police; Morris Kiefer. Street Maintenance.
The plans for the improvements to the sewer disposal plant were di.scussed. At a previous meeting the contract was awarded to the Independent Construction Com¬ pany of Chicago, (no contract has been signed pending state approv¬ al' who presented the lowest bid for the work. A' discussion of the storm sewer followed. As of this date no bid has been obtained for this project.
The new board approved an ex¬ tension of the water main on Mill street to cross Route 47. Being no further^ business the village board adjounred.
Grade Operetta May 17

Upon May 17, 1961, 8:00 p.m., th^ uHntley Grade School grades of 4, 5. and 6 shall present the pHmier performance for the pub¬ lic, admission free, of the operetta, "hTe Moon For A Prince," com¬ posed and arranged by Dr. B. Coar, of DeKalb, 111. The operetta shall be under the musical direction of Mr. Roger A. Perley.
Since Huntley C^jnsolidated Sf:hools has one of the very few complete Pre-Band groups, set-up for grade four students (this is the required music curriculum for the grade level with the school furnish¬ ing the instruments for each stu¬ dent', and the operetta is composed with pre-band accompaniment, the school system of Huntley was se¬ lected to perform the first perform¬ ance of this operetta. Many edu¬ cators are being invited to attend this program; the general public is most cordially invited to attend the program and see and hear the chil¬ dren in their public performance.

The Huntley High School track team beat Batavia, 54 to 52, last Friday night with Central placing third.

Aiivards Program

The Huntley Consolidated High School shall have their first evening awards assembly upon May 19, 1961, at Huntley Cons. Schools, Huntley, 111. The main reason that an evening awards assembly has ben selected is that this shall allow the public to attend to see their sons, daughters, etc., receive var¬ ious awards and honors.
The assembly time has been set at 8:15 p.m. upon the above date. Susan Plane shall act asnarrator; she is the Student Council Presi¬ dent. The Huntley High School Band shall present prelude and postlude music, under the direction of Roger A. Perley.
The Faculty Planning Conunittee for this assembly are: Mr. D. Bar¬ rett, Mr. H. Anderson, Mrs. M. Clark, and Mr. R. Perley. It is hoped that many students and adults attend this event.
Music Groups at Contest

At 5 a.m., students of Huntley Consolidated Schools Senior Band and Senior Chorus began their 93 mile trip to their first attendance, in a number of years, of the class "D" State Music Contest Finals.
The students traveled to the con¬ test center at Shimer College, Mt. Carroll, 111. upon buses driven by Mr. W. Proffitt, Bus Supervisor, and Mr. J. Olson. ITiirty-five of the thirty-seven band performers were present; the entire twenty-three voice choir was present. Besides Mr. Perley, the director, Mrs. R. Perley and son, Mrs. C. Kahl, and Donna Schultze attended the con¬ test site.
The students traveled on two buses; one to carry passengers, vvith the other bus acting as instru¬ ment carrier.
The Chorus was awarded an "E.xcellent" rating on their per¬ formance of their two performance numbers of: "We Sing Thy Praise," and "An Evening's Pastorale." The Senior Chorus also participated in "sight-reading" a musical composi¬ tion, a selection which tho chorus members, and director, had never seen before.
The Senior Band was awarded a "Good" award on the presentation of their concert selections of: "Under Escort March," "Romeo and Juliet," and "Citadel Owr- ture;" the bald also "sight-read" a musical selection that they had never seen before.
Also upon this day, Saturday, May 6, 1961, soloists that received "Superior" ratings at the District Music Contest presented their selec¬ tions at the State Music Contest Finals. Jeanne Kahl received a "State Superior" upon her perform¬ ance of a vocal solo, "The Winds Are Calling"; Nancy Urbach re¬ ceived a "State Excellent" rating upon her flute solo, 'Gypsy Rhon- do," accompanied by Bonnie Bor¬ hart; and Jeanne Kahl received a "State Excellent" rating upon her piano solo, "May Night." Mrs. R. Perley accompanied Jeanne Kahl upon her vocal solo.
Upon the buses arrival at con¬ test headquarters at 7:30 a.m., and after checking in, rolls and bever¬ ages were enjoyed by all that de¬ sired such; these refreshments were r ovided by the Huntley Music Or¬ ganizations. Lunch was provided for those persons that wished to eat together; the cost was paid from the Music Students' Organiza¬ tional Fund as secured from cron- cert receipts. One bus returned to Huntley early; with thirty-four members; they arrived home around 3:00. The second bus, with instruments, arrived bade in Hunt¬ ley, after the solo peirformances, and picking-up of rating copies, at around 7:00 p.m.
