Special Guests at Aux Meeting
The American Legion Auxiliary met on Monday April 2nd at 6:30 with a pot-luck supper. 27 mem¬ bers and 3 prospective members were present two joining. The llth District Director Helen Corey and her secretarj' Gladys Kerns of Woodstock and McHenry County Council President Winnifred Ham¬ mond and her secretary loleno Biolene Biongardi of Fox River Grove, iwr) essay contest winners and their moth^^Mrs Ed Ung- sand Joan and vK Joe Hammer and Kafhy and Mrs Don Barrett who judged these essays.
New members joining were Mrs Floyd will Jr. Mrs Thomas Bjorn will join later. The tables were very spring looking with white cloths and grew|^nd bold run¬ ners n center wi^Hbwls of purple Iris. The younge^roembers served the supper and each member and guest had a place card trimmed with yellow Jonquils. Meeting fol¬ lowed the supper with president Lima Tessendorf presiding.
Colors were advanced by Elsie Jordi and Mabel Schultz, Pledge given Preamble and tho singing of the National Anthem. Prayer by Chaplain Bernice Baklej'.
Chairman reports gi\cn Elsie Jordi read story of the Legion and Auviliary. She also reported on the Heart Fund Dii\c 15140.40 collect¬ ed. There will be a program for the Veterans at Elgin on May 11 and they need carpet rags, maga¬ zines, stretch so.x and clothing. Any one ha\ ing anj' of these things please contact Elsi Jordi or Lima Te.ssendorf.
Joan Ungs read her essay on
Patriotism and Kathy Rommcr hers. Joan was Awarded two dol¬ lars and Kathy Hemmer $5.00. Mary Palmer could not be with us but was awarded $3.00. Mrs. Don Barett received a gift for judging.
May Chesak reported the Girl State application were taken care of. Alice Jordi sold \oterens craft and awarded some to Carolyn Schachtner. lolene Biongardi. She also reported that 8 juniors will attend the Junior Convention at Joliet in April. Mabel Schultz re- pxjrted on the Color guard being formed 12 have signed up for this and more openings to be filled. On April 19 bells across the nation will be heard. This being Patriots Day. Congratulation
The Sate Bank of Huntley re¬ ceived a lengthy congratulator>- Western Union telegram from the American Bankers Association. It read in part as such:
"Congratulations. American Bankers Annual Roll Call of 8,000 commercial banks, edition 29, will report your bank as having made a gain of si.xty-five places in rank since a jear ago. A 'Pan Cake supper was held on Saturday at tho Legion for the Thunder birds. George Wilis in charge, and he thanks all who helped and also those who l)ought tickets making the supper a suc¬ cess. Members of the Auxiliary helping were Mesdames Lillian Wilis, Bernice Bakley, Olive Hen¬ negan and Mazie Blott.

The Huntley P.T.A. meeting held j their 260th meeting on March 29, i at the Huntley Consolidated : Schools, Huntley, 111. The meeting ! was started at 8:15 P.M. by Sec- reary R.A. Perley, presiding of¬ ficer.
The treasurer's report was pre¬ sented. The secretary's report was given, and approved.
Discussion was brought forward concerning the 1962-1963 P.T.A. Scholarship. Mr. Burmeister mov¬ ed that $75 be moved from the General Balance into the Scholar¬ ship Fund, and that the proceeds from the April 14th Bake Sale be put into the fund also. Second by Mrs. Barrett, carried.
A letter was read from Joyce Kopsell; she recently received the 1961-1962 Huntley P.T.A. Scholar¬ ship.
Additional information concern¬ ing the P.T.A. Golden Jubilee Scholarship was given by Mr. Bar¬ rett.
Mr. Perley introduced the topic of contributing $25. to the Music Camp Scholarship Fund. It was decided that this topic would be set aside >j|^^ the May 9 meet¬ ing due tdBjVe present situation of funds available.
Mr. Burmeister, Nomination Chairman, reported that officers had been selected, and accepted, for the 19662-1963 P.T.A. year, with the exception of the office of PresideijIUffhose persons nom¬ inated wcrl^^rs. C. Kopsell, vice- president. Mrs. R. Perley. secre¬ tary, and Mrs. E. S. Hernandez, treasurer. The aforementioned candidates were voted into their respective positions they will be installed at the May 9 P.T.A. meeting. There still exists a va¬ cancy for the office of President.
Mrs. Barett, program chairman, introduced Connie Koch and Pat Englert, representatives of the American Legion Junior Auxiliary. Miss Englert gave a speech con¬ cerning the Flag Code, and Miss Koch presented copies of the Flag Code, for each school room to Mr. Barett, who accepted them in behalf of the school.
Mrs. Barrett introduced school bzoard candidates: the incuml)ents are Mr. B. Weber and Mr. E. Stading. Jr.; new candidates are Mr. R. Scott, Mrs. A. Kunde, Mr. R. Gruner Mrs. Korwin, and Mr. R. Schultz. Each candidate pres¬ ent was given a few minutes to talk to the P.T.A. people present. |

The Second Annual Huntley High School Science Fair was held Thursday afternoon, March 29, 1962 in the high school cafe¬ teria. Twenty exhibits were on display for viewing by the Junior High School and high school stu¬ dents. The projects were also ex¬ hibited at the PTA meeting that evening.
Science project work is designed to give students enrolled in science clas.ses an acquaintance with some aspects of science that cannot be obtained in regular science classes. It places an erti- phasis on using the scientific method is problem solving and gives the student some practical experience in using many of the techniques and methods a scient¬ ist must use in his research. The primary- aim is not to produce a group of research scientists, al¬ though it is hoped that many will be stimulated into entering science related careers.
A science project s required of the physics and chemistry stu¬ dents as a part of their work in the course. Biology and general sconce students are not required to complete a project, although they are encourged to do so.
Science the number of projects entered in the school fair is rel¬ atively small, no atempt is made to judge the projects on a com- petiti\c basis. Participation i); the district science fair is voluntary, although all students are en¬ couraged to participate. This year seven exhibits trom our school be held in the fieldhouse at will be entered in the Northern Illinois District Science Fair to Northern Illinois University, De¬ Kalb, on Saturday, April 7, 1962. The public is welcome and invited to attend. The best time for view- ^ ing the exhbits is from 9:00 A.M. ' to 12:00 noon, since after judg- dng has taken place, many of | the exhibits are taken down.
