On the left is Mar Ral Fan R36, a registered ayrshire junior heifer held by Don Oldham, herdsman at Mar Ral Farm. Algonquin, Illinois. This calf is sired by Burnhodm Royal¬ ist, whose first tested daughters arc milking fifty pounds of milk a day as two year olds. Hor own mother has two official records of milk - 12,000, and fat - 490, milking twice a day in ten month lactations. Fan R36 has been do¬ nated by Mr. G. J. Paige, owner of Mar Ral Farn\, Mr. Paige is a prominent ayr¬ shire dairy cattle breedre whose handsome cattle are continuous DHL\ test and have been exhibit¬ ed at many major catle shows all over the country. He is a mem¬ ber of fhe McHenry County Pure Bred Dairy Cattle Association - - an organization that promotes the interest of dairymen, and especial¬ ly 4-H and FFA members, towards the merits and advantages of purebred dairy cattle. Special Meeting A special meeting of H.I.A. was held at Springfield July 18th, Mrs. Gordon Peacock and Mrs. Albert Ehel attended the meeting. An H.I.A. meeting was held at the Farm Bureau rooms Wood¬ stock. July 20t'h. Special Meeting . . . Heifers To Be Aivarded Thunderhirds Win Trophies During the month of July the American Legion's Junior Color Gufird, "The Thunderbirds", won two trophies. The first was won at Fox Lake, Illinois in a parade on July 2. The second trophy, for the best color guard in the parade, was won in Dundee on July 19. Up to this date. "The Thimder- birds" Partisipated in 6 parades and have 3 more scheduled for this season. This week, workmen have finished hooking up gas lines and electrical connections for the dry¬ ers. The exhaust vents on the dryers also are being worked on and near completion. Farmers in McHenry, Boone, and Lake counties are receiving checks totaling $13,463.60, as divi¬ dends on their stock in the Feder¬ al Land Bank Association of Woodstock, according to an an¬ nouncement made today by Ray Timmons, Manager. This dividend was declared by the board of directors of the as¬ sociation at its last meeting, pay¬ able to its member-stockholders of record at the close of business on May 31. 1961. The payment of this dividend by the association has the effect of reducing the average interest rate paid this year by association members on their loans. Red Cross Plans Classes Following President Kennedy's message to tho Nation on July 25, the rea(Stion of the public seems addressed to preparedness. The McHenry County Chapter of the American Red Cross plans special training classes as recom¬ mended by Civil Defense, in care of the sick and injured. Mother and baby care and first aid. National authorities urge that one member of every family j should be trained in either first < aid or care of the sick and in¬ jured. Aprogram of the fair is published within these pages for the convenience of our readers. ENTERTAINMENT A good county fair, and we think ours is a good one, usually has something of interest for every¬ one, certainly there 'is a wide variety of entertainment. We be¬ lieve the Steele Amusements car¬ nival is one of the cleanliest and best we have known. There will be many exciting rides. It will be larger and oven more fun this year, says Raymond Timmons, McHenry County Fair Publicity Chairman. Miss McHenry County One of the prettiest girls in the county will be chosen to preside over the fair. This selection wUl be made on Thursday night. TB X-Ray Unit Scheduled For August 14 The TB X-Ray unit will be in Huntley at the Huntley Fire Bam on August 14 from 2-5 p.m. The X-Ray will be given to anyone 30 years old and up from 2-5 p.m. However, under 30 years of age from 2-4 p.m. If there are any further questions, call Mrs. Wal¬ ter J.
