Walter and Grace Mursewick purchased the first postcard of Huntley, now available in the Huntley Supermarket.
Wherever you go, everyone wants to send a postcard home. What do friends send home when they visit Huntley?
This question bothered Al ii Joyce Allen. Why isn't there a postcard of Huntley? The next question was, how does a town postcard get made? The Aliens found this was a hard question to answer. They had to do a
lot of phone calling and researching to come up with an answer.
They came up with the name of Dwayne Studio in Woodstock. The site, Huntiey Square, was photographed in the spring. The finished postcards are finally available at the Huntley Supermarket. The first cards were purchased by Walter and Grace Mursewick.
Coral Homemakers Meet'
The Coral Unit of Homemakers Extension Association met on Thursday, Sept. 7th, at the home of Sylvia Glenn in Marengo for their first unit meeting of the new year, 1989-1990.
The Hrst meeting of the new year always seems to be such a hectic one - with "picking up" after the summer months and "setting up" a new schedule for the year to come. So many topics were discussed at the meeting. The June picnic at Deicke Park in Huntley; the H.E.A Booth at the McHenry County Fair in August; the tour of the Sherman Center for Women's Health coming up soon in October; and the "International Day" pot-luck luncheon/meeting coming up the end of October were some
of the few items that were touched upon that day.
The lesson was given by Lynn Hall directly after the unit meeting. The title of the lesson was "Substance Abuse in McHenry County". Quite a bit of information was given to the unit members at this time and we all came away from the meeting a bit more aware of the scope of substance abuse in our County.

'Annual School Pie Sale
This year's pie sale is going to be fabulous because the pies are going to taste greatll The ninth annual pie sale in Huntley is going on now until October S.
The flavors available are cherry, pumpkin and apple for $5.25 and pecan and chocolate silk for $6.75. All the pies are delivered to the customer baked and frozen on November
8, just in time for holiday entertaining.
The students from fifth through eighth grade are selling the pies to raise money for outdoor education. Held trips and graduation activities. Mandy Gunther says, "Hurry and get the greatest pies aroundl"

Farm Bureau
Charles Olsen told 350 Farm Bureau members he welcomes more participation in the day-to-day activities of their organization during his report at the 77th annual meeting in Richmond Sept. 11.
"We need more than directors on our committees. I would welcome additional input," the Richmond farmer observed at the end of his first year as head of the 7,501 member organization. He was re-elected president during the board's reorganization meeting on Sept. 13.
Olsen announced Steve Drendel, Huntley farmer, is a candidate to serve as the District I Young Farmers representative. Election is during the lAA annual meeting Dec. 3-6 in Chicago. If elected, Drendel would also sit on the state wide Young Farmers Committee.
Rosemary Becker, chairman of the Women's Committee, listed some activities: Defensive Driving course, promotion of farm products, delivering fruit to , Valley-Hi, sponsoring the Ed Gourley blood drive, helping with the District I quilt project to raise funds for the lAA Foundation, and support of the CHIEF program with letters to key public officials.
She discussed development of the "Look Alike" poison and safety display and said it had generated good response on the many look-alike products which can entice youngsters to.consume something dangerous.
Becker said the CAUTION sign relative to the dangers of left turns on highways without warning has received strong support around the state. Requests for the sign have come from many County Farm Bureaus since its unveiling at the McHenry County Fair August 2 and with added publicity in FarmWeek in mid-August.

Aid Association for
Lutherans (AAL) Branch 191 of Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley held the drug awareness program, "Get Involved Before Your Kids Do", in May, 1989. In order to further help

the community, AAL has agreed to give $300.00 toward drug awareness and prevention in the community. They are happy to present the money to Huntley School's Operation Snowball for further education of the area youth.
On Friday, September 22nd late afternoon, the faculty of Huntley School attended a farewell party for Grade School Principal, Jan Kirkel at Pinecrest Golf Club in Huntley.
Miss Kirkel has wanted to
move to Northern Wisconsin and her wish has come true. She has taken a Principal position at a school in that area.
We will miss you, and we all wish you much luck in your new endeavor.

Voter Registration

This Saturday, September SOth, will be the last opportunity to register for the November 7th election. A deputy registrar will be at the Huntley American Legion from 9 A.M. to 12:00 noon to register new voters and
change names or addresses so that you will be eligible to cast your vote.
These public registrations have been held for the convenience of those not able to register during regular office hours.
