Village Trustee John Sheehan, Village President James Dhamer and Village Trustee Joe Gow gratefully accept the honorary plaque for the Town Square and Gazebo from the McHenry County Historical Society.
County Historical Society Plaques Huntley Town Square, Gazebo —
Approximately twenty five residents and board members attended the plaque ceremony last Saturday afternoon in the Town Square. McHenry County Historical Society Historic Sites Chairman Al Kramka (pictured right) gave a vivid description of the changing
times since 1906, when the earliest photo of the Town Square Gazebo can be found.
Village President James Dhamer and Trustees Sheehan and Gow expressed their appreciation of the honorary plaque and their hopes for future historic buildings in Huntley to be plaqued.

Peter Rasmusen to play baseball in Aruba
Local Youth To Play Baseball In Aruba
The Landfill Emergency Action Committee along with the Huntley PTO will be having a garage sale/flea market on Saturday, September 19, 1992 at the grade school parking lot. If you have any items that you would like to donate for sale, or if you would be able to volunteer to help organize, set up, sell, or clean up, or if you have a pickup truck and could help us move large items, please call Sue Hansen at 669-1236. We need all the help we can get! The money raised from this event will help pay for the legal experts needed to testify in hearings for the landfill that is proposed on Route 47, just north of town.
The Landfill Emergency Action Committee will be hosting a Steer Roast and Auction on Sunday, September 13, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Hamilton Farms (on Conley Road just east of Route 47). There will be an auction of goods and services from area friends and businesses, with many wonderful items up for bid! Among items that have been donated are new furnishings. Bears and Packers tickets, use of a Cancun Villa for a week, use of a Galena Condo, and much more! A complete list of items will be available soon.
Among the many who are donating their services to this event are Brett Coleman from
Coleman's Place in Crystal Lake, who will be our master chef. The beef is being donated by the Hamiltons, and Tom's on Route 62 will supply the sweet corn. Burger King will provide the soda, and Torrefazione Italia will serve the coffee.
There will be square dancing, a DJ, children's games and door prizes! The ticket chairman for Huntley is Joe Gow, 669-5857. Tickets are $25.00 for adults, and $5.00 for kids under 12. You can also purchase tickets at the Town Hall. Peter Rasmusen, son of Larry and Marina Rasmusen, formerly of Huntley and currently residing in McHenry, has been chosen for the International Athletic Foundation, Inc. baseball team. The games take place during the end of August in Aruba, Netherland Antilles. He is the grandson of Hubert and Vera Rasmusen of Huntley.
Rasmusen spent the winter suffering from bronchitis. He recovered just in time to tryout for the Pan American games baseball team in May. He didn't make that team, but was invited to play on the international team. Peter is hoping to play catcher on the team, though any position that lets him play would be great. "I'm really happy to be going," he said. "I hope we win."
Tryouts were tough. About 5,000 boys across the United States ran sprints, and worked on fielding drills, infield drills, and hitting practice. Each participant was ranked on a
scale of 1-5 in each skill. The highest ranking were chosen for the PanAm team, while the rest were either chosen for the international team or told they hadn't made the cut. Only three were chosen from the Chicagoland area.
The 12-15 man team leaves the U.S. August 16 for one exhibition game and five regular games over seven days with teams from Aruba. The foundation is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee.
Rasmusen has been in the McHenry Junior Youth league baseball program since he was 7. This year he is on the Cubs (14-0), coached by his father. He has been instructed in hitting by Bobby Roan, the McHenry County College baseball coach and at Grand Slam in Palatine, and doing arm exercises to improve his hitting and fielding. Peter is planning
to try out again next year. In
the future he would like to play
for a college team.
