Huntley Prepares For "911" Service

I have received several calls from residents on the Enhanced E-911 phone number for emergency dispatch of fire and ambulance. Enhanced E-911 is scheduled to be in operation for all of McHenry County, including Huntley on Apnl 1, 1992. Until that time, the emergency number for fire and ambulance remains 669-2121.
The 50^ sur-charge on your phone bill, that each resident has been paying for the past year, is to pay for the telephone equipment to be installed in the dispatch centers in McHenry County. This equipment is needed to update the dispatch center to be able to receive E-911 calls.
The Huntley Fire Protection District has been working on updating the Master Street Index for the entire District. The Master Street Index is now complete and will be updated at least twice more before E-911 goes on line.
The District now needs the assistance of all residents to update and correct your addresses. All residents in McHenry County have a four or five digit address number including the Village of Huntley. If you are using the old two or three digit number and you live within the Village of Huntley, contact
the Village to update your address. If you live in rural McHenry County contact the County or the Post Office.
The old red fire signs used in rural McHenry County are no longer used by the fire district, only your four or five digit address. Residents of the Huntley Fire District living in Kane County will continue to use the red fire signs as their fire number and address, as Kane County uses a different Grid System than McHenry County.
We also need all residents to display their address number either on their house or mailbox, or both, to insure rapid response by the fire department. Reflective letters at least 3 1/2 inches high should be used as it is very difficult to find house numbers at night. Kane County residents should make sure that their red fire sign is in front of their home and has the correct address on the sign.
With the start up of Enhanced E-911 in April 1992, and with updated addresses and the proper display of them, the Huntley Fire Protection District will be able to respond quickly and acccurately to any emergency.
