We took the Chicago and Northwestern Train into the city and then used public transportation the rest of the way. We went to the Great Barrier Reef Exhibition at the Science and Industry Museum. Boy! What an experience that was. We also had extra time to view the many attractions the museum had to offer. After the museum, we all piled into a cab (all 7 of us) and headed to Michigan to right) Chris Krush, Ken LaFave, led enjoy a visit to Avenue to see the John Hancock Bldg., the Water Tower Place, and all the Christmas lights on the Magnificent Mile. All enjoyed shopping, taking pictures and eating lunch at the Rockin' McDonalds on Ontario Street. The view from the observation deck at the Hancock Tower was okay, considering the visibility was only 3 miles. When we returned we all agreed that we had a great time and that the city was a great place to visit. We all hope to return in the spring for a Cub's game at Wrigley Field. 'Big Bucks" Art Winners Announced The Regular Meeting of the Village Board of Trustees was held in the Board Room of the Village Hall on Thursday, December 8, 1988, and brought to order by the President at 8:10 P.M. Roll noted the following present: President Dhamer, Trustees Wicke, Hoeft, Borowicz and Greve, with Trustee Brown being absent. Also attending were Attorney Kukla, Village Engineer Schwegel, Police Chief Rossi, Public Works Director Nimbar and Building Inspector Schaller. The minutes of the last Regular Meeting of November 10, 1988 were examined and there being no additions nor corrections they were apporved by motion by Trustee Greve and seconded by Trustee Wicke, and roll noted all ayes. The fmancial reports were brought to the Board. After checking same, Trustee Wicke made a motion to accept-the Treasurer's Report as written, seconded by Trustee Greve and upon roll call, all trustess voted aye and the motion carried. Expenses were then discussed. After review, a motion was made by Trustee Hoeft, seconded by Trustee Greve, to approve payment of same, roll noted all ayes, motion carried and the clerk was instructed to make their payment. A listing of same is attached hereto. Trustee Wicke brought a communication from Illinois Bell to the Trustees in which the village must choose a distance company. Trustee Hoeft made a motion to elect A T & T as the company for long distance, seconded by Trustee Borowicz, and upon roll call, all trustees voted aye and the motion carried. The first action item of the Board was the presenta¬ tion of Ken Bakley regarding his 13th Addition. After discussion with Attorney Kukla and Mr. Kuda, this was postponed to the January, 1989 meeting. He then requested that his 14th Addition, Parcel #3 be changed to M2 from the original annexation zoning of R4. He presented a preliminary plan, attorney Kukla stated that the Board would be required as follows: 1) approve the preliminary plan as presented and 2) allow an amendment to the zoning from R4 to M2. After questioning by Trustee Borowicz, a motion was made to approve the preliminary plan as presented of Bakley's 14th addition by Trustee Hoeft, seconded by Trustee Wicke. Trustee Greve asked if the Board could approve the final plat even though capacity at the treatment plant was overextended. Attorney Kukla said that wording could be put in the ordinance that the village likes the development and downgrading of the zoning but presently does not have the capacity to handle same at the treatment plant, also a restrictive status applies to the property, and thereafter upon roll call, all trustees voted aye and the motion carried. Next, a motion was made by Trustee Greve, seconded by Trustee Borowicz, to amend the Zoning Ordinance by adoption of an ordinance, on the property known as Bakley's 14th Addition, Parcel 3, from R4 to M2. Upon roll call, all trustees voted aye and the motion carried. Attorney Kukla was to advise the Zoning Commission of the error in the minutes which stated the 10th and should have been the 14th. Mr. Bakley requested that the Trustees view his layout of the new grocery expansion at the South end of the current shopping center. He stated that the ordinance reads zero lot line but wanted the Board's blessing since he said he only needs the Planning Commission ' approval for his plan. Trustee Greve had some misgivings regarding the zero lot line in regard to the adjoining neighborhoods, to which Mr. Bakley stated that he had spoken with the owner adjacent and across from the area and there were no objections. Attorney Kukla questioned if a variance was not needed. After discussion it was found Mr. Bakley did indeed need a variance and Trustee Wicke stated that the Board would be made award of any objections when Mr. Bakley went for his variance. Mr. Bakley told the Board that he planned to light the walk from the building and to put in plantings at the side Continued on page 2 Dave Jilek (Third From The Left) is a 1987 Graduate of Huntley High School. He is the son of Bern and Winnie Jilek Announcement of the winners of the McHenry County College First Annual Big Bucks Art Competition was made at a ceremony in the College Art Gallery by President Robert Bartlett. "All the students should be congratulated on the high quality of work. The art faculty should also be commended for their difficult task of choosing winners from so many fine pieces. I believe this "Big Bucks" Competition is a great kick-off for future art contests and I am pleased to see a fine tradition started," commented Bartlett. Twenty-seven pieces were selected out of over one hundred ninety-five entries. Media entered included colored pencil, photography, oil, ceramics, mixed, acrylic, watercolor, scratchboard, and pen and ink. The first place cash award of $100 was presented to Bill Grey of Crystal Lake. His piece was a large colored pencil drawing of modern American social scene. Second place cash award of $50 was presented to Joanne Bennett of McHenry for her pencil portrait of Tony Lujan, a Navajo Indian. A third place award of a $25 gift certificate donated by Dan Gould, owner of Lloyd's Paint and Paper, Woodstock, was presented to Dave Jilek, Woodstock, for his watercolor titled "Wild Horses". The competition was limited to MCC students enrolled in credit classes during Fall 1988 All types of media were eligible. The public is cordially invited to visit the College Art Gallery and enjoy the students' entries. McHenry County College is located at Route 14 and Lucas Road, Crystal Lake, Illinois.
