Do you have an interest in the Huntley community? Would you like to be a member of an organization that works for its members? Do you like to have fun?
If you have answered "Yes" to any of the above and you are between the ages of 21 and 40, then the answer for you is Jaycees. The Huntley Jaycees offer alot to their members, including: Blood Drives, Canoe Trips, Community Development, Individual Development and much, much more.
We Want You! Stop by and see what we are all about. On Thursday, August 6th, the organization is having a New Member Orientation. Come on out and see what it is all about. No Pressure. No Hype! Plain and simple we are "The Greatest Young People's Organization" in the world. You, too, can join in the fun!

Giving blood is giving the "gift of life."
The Huntley Area Jaycees will be holding their semi-annual blood drive Tuesday, August 4, from 3-7pm at the American Legion. Once again staff from the Heartland Blood Centers will be drawing the blood. The center supplies blood and blood products to 32 hospitals in and around our area.
The Jaycees will call past donors to set up appointments. These appointments help the center determine how many staff to send which helps expedite the donation process by avoiding long waits. Walk-ins are always welcome but please remember that the appointments are very helpful even if you are not sure if you can make it exactly on time we would appreciate the appointments. If you would like to set up an appointment please call 669-3892.
Did you know that 95% of us will use blood at some time during our lives? In this country 65% of the population is eligible to donate yet of that percentage only 5% do. With all the organ transplants and open heart surgeries, it is becoming more difficult to keep up with the increasing demand for blood. If you're a regular donator, please try to recruit one of your friends, neighbors, or business associates to become a donor. Last summer we had 48 donor applicants, the spring produced 42, let's break our record and shoot for 55.
Never donated before? Nervous about stopping in alone? Call a friend and bring them along to ease your nerves and theirs. Donation is a simple process. You can expect to follow four steps: registration, medical history, donation, snacks. The actual blood donation takes about 10 minutes and is
painless except for a little hurt at the very start. The entire process, from the sign in to the time you leave takes about 45 minutes.
The gift of blood IS the gift of life! There are no substitutes for human blood. It can not be manufactured; animal blood can not replace it. People like you are the only source of this life giving blood. There have been many changes in the rules governing blood donations in the past few years, even if you did not qualify a couple years ago you may be able to donate now. For example, high blood pressure is no longer a disqualification. If you have a question as to whether you qualify or not please call the nursing staff at the center at 708-892-7055.

Weinert, Ellison Named Lioness, Lion Of Year
Chris Weinert and Kerry Ellison were recently named the Lioness and Lion of the Year for 1991-1992. Ellison received a commemorative plaque and Weinert received a commemorative charm and a small gift. This special award goes to one man and one woman who have regarded as contributing the most to each club for that year.
