At 10:00am on Saturday, Oct. 24, the Huntley Fire Department will activate emergency sirens of all kinds throughout the community to signal residents to check and change their smoke detector batteries and take a few other fire safety measures. It will join thousands of other fire departments nationwide that are participating in the country's first national fire safety drill, "Operation Check and Change" to sound the alarm --Iiterally--on smoke detector neglect.
"Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery" is a national home
fire safety campaign sponsored by the Huntley Fire Department; the International Association of Fire Chiefs (lAFC) and Energizer batteries. "Change" urges all Americans to adopt a lifesaving habit; changing smoke detector batteries when they change clocks back from daylight-saving time each fall.
"This year, we're hoping to communicate the 'Change' smoke detector maintenance message more dramatically than ever before," said Huntley Fire Chief Dave Veath. "Many people are familiar with the sound a smoke
detector makes when its batteries are low, and through 'Operation Check and Change' we will create the sense that Huntley's smoke detector is signaling the need for community maintenance."
In addition to changing smoke detector batteries,-Chief Veath recommends that residents take a few fire safety measures including, checking the smoke detector itself by pushing the test button, changing flashlight batteries, planning "two ways out" and practicing those escape routes with the entire family.
Huntley Jaycee Honored

our little town. If you attended the Franzen Circus on Sunday, September 13, then you know the high quality project that Crystal managed. Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!!! From advertising to location management. Crystal was the .Taycee responsible for making it all happen.
The Huntley chapter would be lost without the dedication that Crystal has to the Jaycees. Congratulations Crystal!!!
