Redskins Fall To Buda-Western

Despite a 34-8 loss to Buda-Western, the Huntley Redskins varsity football team had an impressive season opener at Buda-Western last Friday night.
Junior Derek Brettman passed for a total of 181 yards, going 5 for 8 with one interception. On the receiving end of most of those petsses was Junior Chad Jeschke. Jeschke had six receptions for a total of 156 yards, a 26 yard average. Junior Ken Bakley also caught one pass for 31 yards.
The Redskins only touchdown was a 58 yard pass from Brettman to Jeschke. The two- point conversion was a running play into the end zone by Junior Nick Hunter.
Overall, the Redskins gained 197 yards receiving to Buda-Western's 118 yards.
Junior Sean Faworski led the way for the rushing offense, with 87 yards on 8 attempts. Senior Lane Linnenkohl added an impres¬ sive 59 yards on 7 carries. Total rushing yardage for the Redskins was 189.
Leading the defense were three juniors: Robert Selling outdid himself with 14
tackles. Bakley had 11 tackles, including five solos. Todd Harris had 10 tackles, four of which were solos.
Seniors Tim Heavey and Brent Schroeder were injured during the game. Heavey, with a knee injury, is doubtful for the remainder of the season, and Schroeder is definitely out with an injured shoulder.
Coach Terry Awrey said of the team, "They are a young bunch and are working their best to get better."
Also playing Friday night was the junior varsity Redskins football team. Although individual statistics are not kept for junior varsity, the team held the Buda-Western Rams to only six points in the 6-0 loss.
"Junior varsity ball is not for personal glory but for a growing experience," said coach Mike Slattery. His team grew in experience since most had never played high school ball.
The Redskins next game is against Orangeville at Orangeville High School on Friday, September 13.
Coral Homemakers Start New Season

The Coral Home Extension Unit held their first meeting of the 1991-92 season September 5, at the 1st Congregational Church in Huntley. Maude Hill was the hostess, providing many tasty dishes with yummy pass-around pot luck dishes brought by other members.
The business meeting followed lunch, reviewing summer activities and planning meetings it lessons for the new year. Insomnia was the lesson presented by Unit President Beverly King. Everyone enjoyed
discussing what gives them a sleepless night and how to handle it.
Coral Homemakers meet the first Thursday of each month at the home of one of the members. Times vary so even working members can attend many of the meetings. Anyone may attend a meeting to find out if they are interested in our group. We have lots of fun! Huntley Supermarket Breaks Ground For New Store

You've heard about it... You've read about it...Now, it's finally becoming a reality.
It was an extra-special birthday for Joyce Allen, when the New Huntley Supermarket ground-breaking ceremony took place Wednesday, September 4, 1991. At approximately 5:00 pm, business owners, Al and Joyce Allen and their sons Len and Ken, were joined by
Huntley Mayor, James Dhamer, Ken Bakley, construction contractor and the builder, Jim Brachman, as the first shovels struck the dirt.
The Allen's excitement was obvious as they explained some of the plans for their new store. "It will have all we have now, only bigger and better," Al claimed, "plus a lot more." The 18,624 sq. ft. facility will also boast an in-store deli, bakery and
fresh flower shop.
The estimated completion date for the building is April 1, 1992. Then the interior work begins. The Allen's have been driving around visiting other area stores for over a year in order to find and combine all the best features for Huntley shoppers. They've already begun ordering all new equipment and supplies. Excitement will continue as we all watch the progress.
