Cub Scouts Race In Pinewood Derby

The competition was fierce on Jan. 12, 1991, as the Cub Scouts of Pack 167 went head to head racing their finely tuned Pinewood Derby Cars. A total of 53 boys participated in the 1991 Pinewood Derby. The trophies were awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in each age group, and awards were given for best paint job and best design job.

Ladyskins Win 1st Conference!
The Lady Redskins had 3 games scheduled this last week; but only competed in 2 of them. Monday they were scheduled to play in South Beloit. South Beloit called and canceled the game.
On Thursday, they matched up with Burlington Central. Despite Huntley's defense, Burlington came out on top. They had an excellent defensive performance and played with extreme intensity. The reason why they lost, according to coach Kahl, "They couldn't hit the broadside of a barn!" Very few of the Redskin's shots were falling.
Saturday, against Richmond, was Parents Day and the Redskins came back with the same intensity, comparable defense and this time their shots were falling. This was Huntley's first conference win. Kim Strissel, who usually scored 4 or 6 points a game scored 16 points. Julie Ottley scored 11 and had 11 rebounds and 7 steals! Sarah Mercer had 6 points and 9 rebounds. Heather Brettman had 9 points thanks to 5 out of 6 from the free throw line. Tawnya Terry had 5 points. The teams' next game is at Hampshire on Thursday.
U. S. Flag Flies To Honor James O'Connor
The certificate reads, "This certifies that the accompanying flag flew over the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. on October 2, 1990 at the request of the Honorable J. Dennis Hastert, Member of Congress, in honor of James A. O'Connor." It is signed by George M. White, FAIA, Architect of the Capitol. The flag was flown by special request of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School Athletic Association. "Mr. O'Connor has done so much for us, we wanted to do something really special to show our appreciation," said
Pete Wilcox, athletic director.
The certificate, in a special frame, custom-made by Jim Feld, was presented to his son's family, James, Karen, Murf and Kelly O'Connor on Sunday, January 6, 1991. "It was a wonderful surprise...we knew nothing about it," said the O'Connors.
The flag now hangs in the St. Charles School Gym. A copy of the plaque will also hang in the gym, to acknow¬ ledge James O'Connor's many services to the school's athletic program.
