Harvesters Plan Reunion
For 65th Anniversary Celebration
A grand and glorious cele¬ bration and reunion is planned by the Huntley Harvestors this summer.
Huntley Harvestors members of today and yesteryear plan a dinner and program to mark the 65th anniversary of this 4-H club, a club rich in memories, in achievements and in the development of out¬ standing young men and women.
The celebration will be on Sunday, June 30 at the McHenry County Fairgrounds in Woodstock. The committee is now seeking all past members and leaders to join in this milestone anniversary.
Elmer and Rae Meyer and Bill and Rosemary Becker, leaders of this remarkable 4-H club, are organizing this celebration but anticipate plenty of help from present and former members. In fact, Rae Meyer issues a call for former members and leaders to contact her or Rosemary Becker to help line up all possible Huntley Harvestors.
"When people come forward to tell us their interest in this celebration, we can use their contacts to find others who may not hear about it. We know Harvestors are all over the country, and through the years 4-H'ers maintain contact with one another. We think this will be a good way to locate our alumni," said Rae.
The Huntley Harvestors is the oldest 4-H club in McHenry County. Achievements at the McHenry County Fair, Illinois State Fair and earning recognition at the 4-H Club Congress mark the
Huntley Harvestors' 65 years.
In judging, for example, the Harvestors have frequently had a member on a state judging team, such as:

horticultlure; Tim Acker, Todd Manke and Brian Wesemann, dairy; and Amy Meyer, meats. Todd Manke, Jodi Manke, and Theresa Becker have attended the National Dairy Conference. Monica Fettes and Amy Meyer won at the state level and were chosen to attend the 4-H Club Congress.
Community service involve¬ ment is a hallmark of the Harvestors. The club meets at a local church. As an expression of appreciation for the hospitality, members have given Christmas wreaths, wrought iron outdoor porch railing, lucite music stand and two bicycle racks to the church.
Five years ago the Harvestors honored their longtime leader, Henry Marlowe, by purchasing a fiberglass flagpole it bronse marker. They conducted a ceremony to install them at the entrance to Old Timers Park in Huntley.
Club members have conducted many fund-raisers to sponsor trips to such places as the Henry Ford Museum, Disney World, and Springfield. A Softball team has been a prominent club activity. A Harvestors team has earned trips three times to the state finals.
A major factor in the success of the Harvestors has been a strong, involved leadership. Soon after Henry and Helen Marlowe came to Huntley in 1931, both became involved in 4-H, and Henry assumed club leadership. He held that position for many years. Bill it Rosemary Becker are among his 4-H pupils.

The Huntley Park District, with the cooperation of the Village of Huntley, has developed a beautification project for the Town Square. A picture of the plan is illustrated on this page. The cost of each project is also listed. Instead of using tax dollars, we are asking individuals, organizations and businesses for donations. With each donation received, a plaque will be installed naming the donor, or donors, if more than one has donated to each project.
