SERVING THE PEOPLE OF HUNTLEY SINCE 1960 CI)t JRuntlep jfarmsiibt HUNTLEY, ILLINOIS THURSDAY, JULY 8, 1993 - VOLUME 33, NUMBER 11 USPS 580-360 Luann Lamz with the help of Betsy and Larry Warrington, Helen Kohler and the Huntley Park District, organized Huntley's first community choir which performed a 4th of July concert in the Town Square gazebo. Huntley Community Choir Attracts Big July 4th Crowd By Margie Hughes The Huntley Community Choir held a concert in the Town Square on the 4th of July. The concert was directed by Luann Lamz and accompanied by Helen Kohler. Larry Warrington talked to Luann to see if she would be willing to lead a community choir. Luann, loving music as much as she does, naturally said she would do it. Then the fun began, getting the singers together. There were four two-hour practices. The concert was excellent and very well attended. The theme was patriotic as it was Independence Day. There was a breeze blowing to keep any unwanted bugs away - a perfect • day for a concert. Choir members from the Congregational Church in Union are Bill and Ginny Deuerling. Members of the Methodist Church in Dundee are Jan Andresen, Sandra and Steven Granholm, Doug Kolpak, Larry and Pat Maddux, Rebecca Wendt and LaMerle Wolter. Choir members from Huntley are Nancy Dvorak, Janet Graf, Carl and Shelby Hill, Ruth Kahl, Sue Kittel, Tracey Schwartz, Mike Thackwray, Betsey and Larry Warrington, and Amanda, Chuck and Kathy Yerke. Prime Group Holds Mall Meeting By Jim Dhamer, Mayor The Prime Group will make a presentation of the background, concept and architecture of its proposed mall. Village Trustees, other elected officials. Planning Commissioners, Zoning Board of Appeals members, the public and the press are invited. Representatives of Prime's design team and retail operations division will be available to answer questions at the village hall, July 7, 1993 at 7:30pm. Dvorak Resigns, Brown Joins Huntley Planning Commission At least a hundred area music lovers enjoyed| Huntley Community Choir's first concert on the Town Square gazebo. The Planning Commission of the Village of Huntley was called to order June 14, 1993 at 7:30pm. Attendance: Chairman Rohlwing, Brown, Hann, Domagalski, Daum and Franzen. Also in attendance: Mayor Dhamer and Administrator Nelis. Secretary: Chairman announced that after fifteen years of service, Nancy Dvorak is resignirig. Demands of a family and a business make continuing service impractical. Mr. Schachtner arrived. Motion by Franzen, Duam 2nd, for the Chairman to purchase a plaque which recognizes Ms. Dvorak for her long service. Vote: all ayes. Introduction of new member: Chairman introduced Milford Brown. Mr. Brown has been a Village Trustee and will bring a wealth of experience to the Commission. Minutes of May II, 1993 were discussed. Motion by Daum, Franzen 2nd, to accept the minutes. Vote: all ayes. Moerke Rezoning: The petitioner is seeking a rezoning from R-2 to B-2 for the property located at 11004 N. Vine (Rt. 47). The new zoning is consistent with the Village's comprehensive plan and with recent decisions. The new Subway PUD abuts Ms. Moerke's land to the north. The petitioner would like to build a garage which could not be constructed under the residential regulations. Motion by Daum, Brown 2nd, to recommend to the Zoning Board of Appeals the granting of the petitioner's request to rezone 11004 N. Vine from R-2 to B-2. Vote: all ayes. Greentrees: Ms. Sonntag, Executive Director of McHenry Housing Authority, presented plans for an additional twelve units of senior housing at the Greentrees project. The existing project is a PUD thus requiring an amendment of the PUD in order to build the additional units. Ms. Sonntag asked for a conceptual opinion because, being limited on funds, the housing authority did not wish to begin this process unless it was comfortable that the Village would be receptive. A question was raised on the open space and recreation opportunities in the existing project. The recreation areas were indicated on the plan. Staff pointed out that the ordinance only allows 12 dwelling units to the acre (du/ac). This project is 14 du/ac. The ordinance allows "bonus units" for a variety of criteria one of which is the provision of low income housing. The consensus of the Commission was that 14 du/ac was acceptable. Ms. Sonntag asked if there were any specific changes requested. The consensus, with some reservations expressed by one member about recreation space, was that the project was fine as proposed. Solarcrete: Mr. Konopka presented plans for the Northern Illinois Mold Company. The plans are presented as part of the Commission's courtesy site plan review program. After a discussion, the consensus was that the plans were fine. Staff said that the building still had to pass a zoning review and building permit procedures. continued on page 8
