| FullText | Remember: “Success is not measured by what you accomplish but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.” A quote by Orison Swett Marden. It is hard to imagine three years ago we were walking into a new unknown environment. Yet, here we are graduating. Tonight we are filled with emotion. Sad that we are leaving friends behind, but excited to be graduating and starting a new journey. I’m caught in between wanting to leave the familiarity of school behind, but yet I’m scared to think of being out on my own. Looking back over the past three years brings up a lot of memories. Some good and some not as good. I remember getting up at 4 in the morning to drag myself to clinical. I remember the piles of homework that never seemed to go away no matter how long I worked on them. I remember the phone call I would get on Sunday nights asking what was due the next day for class. I remember the nerves the night before a test and the phone calls and text messages I would get trying to figure out what this or that meant. I also remember the terror I felt when I had to give an injection to a real live human being for the first time. Yet, after all the bad memories I have several good ones. I remember how it felt when my patient would tell me that I deserved a good evaluation for the day. I remember the fun I had car pooling to school. I remember the Jr/Sr banquets where we could let loose and have some fun. I remember the times that I was down and my classmates would be there to cheer me up. And I remember the friendships I’ve made through my three years of nursing school, some that will last a lifetime. No, the last three years haven’t been easy and if it weren’t for each other I don’t know how we would have made it. On behalf of my class, I want to thank all of our friends and family who were there for us. To those who put up with the bad moods, the tears, and the complaining. Thank you for supporting us as we’ve worked hard to be here tonight. I would also like to thank all of the GHSON instructors and faculty for spending extra time out of their days and nights helping us make through to the next day. It has been a long road to get here and everyone should be proud that we are finally here sitting on this stage. Now I would like to share this quote with my classmates from Woodrow Wilson: “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget this errand.” I would like to leave my classmates with one final thought-Congratulations Class of 2010, we made it! |
