BAD THE APPEARANCE OF A PRIVATE STILL
Officers Made Investigation and Found Two Barrels of Mash Al¬ most Ready for Use .The Gnilty I'arty Has No Doubt 8kipped
Some ten doys ago Marshal Neai Totmon, of our city, received a tip from a party whose name is withheld that preparations were being made by a stranger to start a private still In an old house ou the Jack Lee farm, locattd about six miles southeast of Flora In Stanford township. The marshal consulted with Mayor Prite and it was decided tff keep a close vratch on the premises and say noth¬ ing and wait for furfher develop¬ ments, but in some way what was going on was found out and It was decided to make on Investigation on Monday of this week. County At¬ torney Tolliver, Sheriff McGlyea, Deputy Speaks, Captain Walnman, Ross KItley,Prof. Slzer, James Mc¬ lntire, Brnest Chaney and Bud Lee decided to visit the place and make on itrvestigation. Upon 'arriving at the premises they found the doors of
. the house locked and windows barred An entrance was forced ond the fol¬ lowing contents were tound: "Two borrels of sour mash, almost ready for use, two suit cases, two boxes fil¬ led with bottles, on empty 20-gallon keg, a large package of unopened yeast, 100 pounds of sugar, an old bed, cook stove and cooking utensils, large new brown snawl, a blanket and lap robe, but the party who owned these things away from home.
' The farm had recently been leased by Mrs. Libbie Lee to a young mon who gave his name as — Haines, claiming that he came from Montana. He stated that he was an ex-soldler in poor health and wanted to reside on a farm to raise chickens and veg¬ etables. Coupty attorney Tolliver advised that no arrests be made un¬ til sufficient evidence could be se¬ cured. H. W. Shriner was requeot- ed to notify the U. S. morsholl, at Newton, also the commissioner, at Danville. This was done but at the present writing no word has been received. Haines has not be^ seen since Monday evening and it Is be¬ lieved that be has left these parts.
CHAMP CLARK FUNERAL TRAIN
Last Sunday at 12:20 the Champ Clark furieral train from Woshing- ton, D. C. to St. Louis, possed through Flora and stopped for a few minutes. There were eight coaches and about 125 prominent people from congress and the state of Missouri werei aboard. The remains were taken to bis home at Bowling Oreen, Mo,, for interment. Trainmaster K. S Pritchett met the train east and as¬ sisted it this far west.
Congressman "Thos. S. WllliamB was a member of the committee which accompanied the remains. He was joined by Mrs. Williams at St. Louis, where they spent o few days before returning to their home in LouisvUle.
PLEASANT PARTY
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Southwlck gave an enjoyabl».^evening party at their cozy horae on Fifth and Syca¬ more streets Tuesday evening. ¦ A delightful social evening was enjoyed by all. The hostess served dainty and delicious luncheon of sandwiches, pressed meot, 'fruit salad, coke ond coffee. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Pixley, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Cunningham, Dr. and Mrs. H. W. Lane, Misses Jean Southwlck, Kath¬ ryn Duff and Jobn Throgmorton, Tom McCorthy.
MEETING TO ORGANIZE
FARM BUREAU
Notices are being sent out by Temporary President Clint Logan and Temporary Secretary F. W. Reitz for a meeting at the court bouse on Thursday. March 17th, at Id:30 a. m. to organize a county farm bureau.. Solicitors bave now secured 470 members and It is ex¬ pected that 500 will have been signed up by dote of organization.

SUSTAINS PAINFUL INJURY
Mrs. Martha Bruner of tbls city happened to qu^te a painful accident Thursday of last week. In going down the front porch steps at her home on Second street in some way she fell Injuring her left foot and Bide. Mrs. Bruner suffered quite a bit of pain from the accident, but is now able to be up.

CITIZEN'S MASS MBEnNOK)N THE LIGHT QUESTION
Last Friday night, at Library ball, there was a maas meeting to discuss the electric light question.
The city councU had previously em¬ ployed Civil Engineer Fuller, of St. Louis, to moke estlmotes and present plans for extension of our light ser¬ vice. Mr. Fuller was present and had three propositions which he plac¬ ed before the meeting, which was pre¬ sided over by E. E, Allen, of the Com¬ mercial Club.
Proposition No. 1 called for im¬ provements to the present plant, to cost approximately $30,000, and to include " a concrete chimney, Cor¬ liss engine and an A.C. dynamo, with cbange in piimping system and other necessary changes.
