Mayor's Proelpiion. t^s^'i New • Again the season approaches, when according to the ancient custom of our forciathersa day should be be set apart as a day of Thanksgiyiiag and prayer. The President has named that day as Thursday, the twenty-sixth day of the present month. The .Governor of our state has concurred inthe selection ofthis day. Now therefore, I, C. S. Cunningham, Mayor ofthe city of Flora, 111., do hereby recommend that on next Thursday, No¬ vember the twenty-sixth, all business be suspended within the city from the hour of ten in the forenoon until two o'clock in the afternoon, and that the day be appropriately Celebrated by attendance upon a house of public worship and devoutly thanking Almighty God for his manifold ^lessings. C. A. coasists of three branches, educational, religions and physical. There are two classes ot members, sctiva and associate. The active are chnrch members, and bave a voting power, while the associate main¬ tain and likewise enjoy the privileges ot tba association. Intbe qaarters ofthe Association is an offlce or Bureau of Information. In this department a secretary and an as- siitant are necessary, and here lists ot imtabU boarding lioatet and toomi are made. A game aud reading i-oom are pi'oridod. Here the men and boys have access to tbe best of literature. Then a gymnaslnm is provided, together with baths and lockers. Tbe rooms are a plsce of meeting and rest tor any one holding a membership card iu a local association, at the rate of five dollars a year, has not only local privileges, but snch privileges in every state. The iMys of the town are given a wider scoiw in athletics. Week day baso ball games ^would be possible, and this wonld thoronghly discourage Sun day base ball. Through the influence ot the Asaociation tha Irays wonld be bronght from tbe , streets and restaur¬ ants. Then the pool rooms would be forced to cloae. for, when one* interest, ed, the people of tbe town wonld not spend tbeir time on tbe streets.
