Lowden for the nomination for Preaident by the Repnblteatt National conventton. His long and diattsgulahed career in the I aervlee of his State and Nation, his ^ exceptional ability and'dlatinction aa tbe War Oavemor of the great com- moQwealtb of the State of Illinota have proven hta worth and great¬ ness. He hareipod for the great things of oiir Ameriean inatttntiona X and haa had mueh to do with thetr f preservation and development In the ptabltc eoneclence, confidence , and ixeverence. The aatumalla of graft iand corruption and favoritism which permeates every a'dmintatrative de¬ partment of the 'Federal Oovem- " beat wilt require the moat drastic reforms to eradicate. The Augean stables could not be cleansed with f a tooth brush; neither oan the cor- ' rnptlon and extravagant tnetftclency at Waahington be cured by high aoandtng phrases, nor glittering ¦ hyperbole. It -will require a blud¬ geon or an axe tn tlie hands of a determined Executive and an appli¬ cation of the moet rigid business principles by a level headed busi¬ nesa man. Such a man Oovemor Lowd |
