LASt Sunday Senator Thurlow O. ^twrington of Streator, Republican (oandidate for governor against Oor. SmaU, came to Flora from Fairfleld and spent the day reeting trom hia •trennous tr{p.
On Monday County Chairman W. H. Simpson introduced him to eiti¬ aens down town and the Senator made acquaintance witb quite a number.
At noon Monday a banquet waa aarved In the baaement ot the M. E. ehnreh by the ladiee aid aad tho dln- nnr was rery fine. Rev Dutt, ot the Baptist church returned thanks for the bleeslngs of lite.
At conclneion of the repast, Chatr¬ man Simpson made a few remarka

I have advocated every measure that had for Its purpose the copstme- lon of hard roads in Illinois,' and I have opposed every atteihpt to make this subject of public improvement a rolitical elub or a pollttcat football. If I am elected to the very high ottlee ot Oovernor of thia great atate, my administration wtll oonttnue the work ot building hard roads, and that administration will buUd more roads and better roads, and at less ooat, than will the present ndmtnistration it eontlnued tn power, because my admlniatration will build hard roads and not political roads. Poiitios and cement and gravel do not mix well for bard roads or cheap roads. And no deception will be practiced as to the actual cost of roads by the failure' to include fn the published cost of roadp the actual cost of grading and the actual cost of the construction of bridges. The people ot this state are entitled to know what tbe roads sre costing and they are entitled to have hard road moneys used for tbe building ot hard roads where and when ttaey are needed, and not for the building or perpetuating of a po¬ litical machine.
