The praclicibility of concrete high ways for general use in Clay county Is now to be pul to the test by actual trial. The road built by Clay City townslilp is completed and ready for use. This road Is built across the little Wabash Uittom. north of Clay City, a distance of .liVMi feet. Tlie work being done under the sanction and direction of the Slate Higliway Commissioners. It Is of solid concrete work of a uniform ml.xture of 1 1-2 parts sand and 2 parts coarse gravel and 2 parts cement, ten feet wide and six Iniiies thick: all upon a level, up¬ on an embankment nine feet high, so as to be almve high water mark. Wliile tlie solid concrete road wav is only to" f*-'t't wide, it isexlended 2 \-2 feet on each side by crushed lime sUitie. giving room for llie pa«slng of vehicles. A few years ago Clay City built a eleven hundred foot tre.ssel, at the lowest piotit in this liottom. Ijelng near the center of the con -rete wor.k wliicli It is believed gives am¬ ple space for the water How at all llTiies.
The contract lor this road was awarded to Mayor 1'. S. Nichols of Klora. who commenced the work sev¬ en weeks ago with H. \. Payne as foreman and tifteen helpers.
