liOrni Boyg Hay lilttle Trouble to
Win From Carlyle and Carmi
By Comfortable Margins
HIGH 'HDK I.N STRK.^TOR GAMK
Coach Cully's rambunctious bas- keteers had but little difficulty in winning their game with Carlyle and Carml on last Friday and Saturday nights. Carlyle was repelled by a score of 39 to 5 after using the first second and third teama. Carml was a little more stubborn and succumb¬ ed 19 to 9 .after a thrilling first quarter when the score was 1 to 0 in favor of Flora at gutJtime.
Carlyle boasted of a victory over Centralia prior to their game here, but after the one, two, three gangs had worked on them and held them to a single basltet In the first frame. and three widely scattered fouls, there wasn't much left fo talk about.
The first five performed the first quarter and part of the second. This bunch was composed of Bestow, Mc¬ Donald, Venable, Knight and Smith. With the score 1 9 to .f these players gave way to Valbert Gahan. Clifton, Bumgarner and Goldsby. In the fi¬ nal section Sullivan, Meyer and Bow¬ man trod the hoards and sneceeded as well as had the second team.
Carml Game Thriller
Carml put uj) a game fight for the first part of the game on Saturday night, holding Flora to a mean foul the first quarter and scoring none themselves. The score at the end of the half was 7 to 0. As Carlyle failed to make a field goa] in the last three quarters of their game It will be noticed that Flora prevented gi field goal being made for five con¬ secutive quarters, In fact only three points were scored against them in the five consecutive quarters, all fonls.
Bestow. Knight. Venablo. Smith and McDonald played this game with Clifton siihatltuting for Knight for a short period of the game.
Salem comes here for their re¬ turn game on Friday night Flora walloped Salem 2f) to 15 at Salem early in the aeason and hopo to he able to duplicate thla feat when the Marlon county lads appear here. Streator Game to be Feature Contest
What will nrobahly he the feature game of basketball for this season will lhe played here on Saturday when the Streator team, one^of the strongest in northern Illlnois, comes here for a game. Prof. Hale's broth er coaches the Streator team and no doubt the gym will be packed with fans rooting for R. W. & Co.. On dope Streator should win the game, but we wouldn't giv ea bite of cream cheese for the dope in this case. The Streator outfit plays In Forrest on Thursday night, Champaign on Fri¬ day night and should be about as tired as Spark Plug aftr a nine mile gallop by the time they reach here. The game will start at 7:30 and no one should miss this chance to see the Streator team In action. Tickets win be half a buck.
Football Dope Next Week Announcement of the football championship team and the all star eleven, as doped out by Prof. McAn¬ drewa of Carbondale, has been made bnt owing to the fact that no offi¬ cial copy has been received here, we will make no commeiit on the team selected, et al., until dext week.
Meanwhile we have our own pri¬ vate detective agency, a brace of blood hounds and a set of ferrets ¦working to get a copy of the "dope". If any or all, of them succeed In getting it, we will fire otf both bar- relB in the next issue. Watch, wait and pray.

FINGER BADliY INJURED
Robert Berry suffered a rather painful Injury to one of his fingers nt tbe Ebner cold stoarge last Sun¬ day. In some manner he caught Ills finger In a door while closing it and in addition to tearing the nail loose he lacerated the finger badly. Although painful the injury Is not lik^y to prove serlonB.
The sporial artists' program broad- r,ist by Station K S D lasi night oc- .asioned coinniPiit from near and far. Tbe protninonc'(> and popularity nf the artists and the beauty of the I)rogram had aroused much lm orest prior td its radio presentation, so .thai virtually every receiving set in town, and outside aa w«ll. whose owners had been notified of the com¬ ing troat, waa tuned in. Aa a reault, the telephone in Ihe reception room of the radio studio was kept ringing constantly with both local and long distance messages. Several compli¬ mentary telegrams from more dis¬ tant points were received.
The artists were Mrs. Carroll Smith, soprano; Miss Agnes Gray violiniste, and Vernor Henshie, pian¬ ist. The virtuosity of Miss Gray's renditions and the beauty and clarity of Mrs. Smith's voice were perfectly transmitted, while those listening said that never has a piano selection gone out more beautifully than the Magic Fire Scene from "Die Walk- ure," which was Henshie'a big piano number. Henshie played the accom¬ paniments for the song and violin numbera.—StT Louis Post Dispatch January 17.
Mra. Smith, who is well-known here and at Xenia, repeats triumph. She Is a daughter-in-law of Col. Randolph Sailtb of Flora.
