Title Goes To Olaey '
Olney gets the 1»19 title by Tirtue of winning every game played with Southem Illinoia ritala. Olney had an unusually big teara and so well lialanced that It la difficult tojiame particular stars without doing In¬ justice to others whose work contri¬ buted to winninjt the coveted title. Olnay outclassed every opponent in -thia section ezcept Flora when she defeatad 7 to < at Olney. Flora is eertaiaiy antltled to aaaaaA- plaee. Flora had a powerful team with sev- laral players of outstanding atrength.
The ranking of the remaining -teams Is cpnjectare only but third place ahould go probably to Harrla- liurg with Hurphysboro, Cairo and ;Aenton foiiowlag eloaely. Bridge¬ port, Aaaa and Belleville should 'Came naxt but any turther ranklag ia impoaalble.
East St. Louia, who haa usually placed high In Southern Illinoia. played all her gameai^a year with teams from other seenhas and ao ¦cannot be properly placed in any ranking liat. Vienna had a strong team with several high claaa play- «n bnt had all her gamea declared torfelted because of using Ineligible playera. a
The following All Soighera Illi¬ noia players were selacfad with the kelp at the leadlBg coachea ot this aeettoB. No attempt" haa been made to move a player from hla regular poaltioa to give him a place oa the taam. These seleetiona represent i co-operative attempt to aaaa the atroagest pUyera la tba diffarant pa- 'aitioiia.

Fpr canter there waa little choice ahioag . Oardner, Murphysboro: Kirach, Benton; Taylor, Flora; Farmer, Harrisbarg,. and Ball of Metropolis. ^Oardner waa a ateady, reliable passer, strong on both offen¬ sive and defense.
There waa a scarcity of good guards this season. LIndaay, Flora ,^eber, Benton, get the places
siSfBfcn, -xha* asr uthaaiwf
and Blackard of Harrisburg deserv¬ ing mentloa. Lindsay was a llttle light for the poaitlon but was in a class by hlmselt for bead work and aggressiveness. Seeber's ezperienee and tremenduous weight nf 240 pounds gava bim the other guard po¬ aitlon. ¦ ,- . ^
There Is little ta choose among Lusk, Flora and laggl and Pago nf Olney, tor the tackle positions. F-.^e M too good to be left otf the team but loses by a shade to the two named. J Lask played a wonderful tackle game tor Flara. He was Im¬ pregnable on dafense and a v-jtrar-. on the offensive being used regularly to carry the ball for aure galna, laggl la one'9f the most powerful tackles ever produced In this section. Ho is
big and rangy and with aggresalve- aesa to spare. Besidee Page ot Olney other good tacklea were Waatan, Herrin; Boger, Carlo aad Thoiaraon, Harrlsburg.
Btllwall of Olney and Valbert and Jordan -of Flora -atand out among the enda ot thia aection. Stilwell has slae, speed, good ball carrying, ability and an uacanny Inattnet for receiving forward liaasea. Valbert and Jordan played a flae game at end showing apecial strength rn de¬ fense. Other enda deaerving maa- tlon are Davia, Aana; Hendriz, Har- riabttrc and Coraatt, ifulphysboro.
Shaw, Harriabarg; Wilsat, Olnay and Haxwell. Flora'stand, head and ahoulders above' tha bthar quartara ot tha aaetioa. Tha thraa ;.ava
about equal ability physlclalljr bnt Shaw showed better Judgement In choice of playa.
Weber of Olney ia the best ha:f|"'"'*" f^* back in the section. He is a fine]- tackier, haa wonderful apeed dUd did I |n/\|>A g(X>RS8 the beat kicking ever seen in South¬ ern Illinois. Schrader of Bridgeport and FoUowell ot Murph>-sl>oro ale both brilliant backfleld msn. (Ine open tiald runners, good plungers and good dotenslve mea but ft-cS-a' dar showed better ability In plekiug opeaings.
Thara la only ona choice for full back. Tonng of Flora gets the placa withoat any question. His aiie, speed, and aggreasiveness uuide hiai the moat valuable aingle player In the section. He always mad2 ground after he was tackled. He wus the hardest tackier aeeiT In yeara He was feared more by oppotiects ahtt liked better by both opponents and team-matea than any other playpr In the aection. His personality and qualitiea ot leadership entlte Mm to be named captain of the All f oath- era Illinois team.
This year's all atar tea4 comparaa favorably with any ot prevli'U't yeara It has unuaual sise, apeed, offeaalve and defensive strength, with ihe best aerial game and the best kicking ever owbed by an All Souihcra UU- i(0is tea'hi.—Olney l>ally Mall.

The tiaal touch waa put on tM. foot ball aeaaon of 1919 Ust Mon¬ day afteraoon when Coach MItehall on behalf of the Athletic aasoCia- tlon of tbe H. S. presented nineteen playen with the lettera which thay had earned. The requirement which each player must anawer, to receive such distinction Is that he ahall have

participated In at leaat forty per cent of the games played and ts ready and willing to play a Thanks¬ giving game It one Is scheduled. Fur¬ thermore, in order to play in any game he must carry successfully at least three subjects In his school work.
The letter each player received was the H. S. monogram, in school colora ot orange and blue, orange lettera set'on a blue background,, which wtt In tha oval shape of a foot ball tj> ladieate the branch of ath¬ letics in which bf had participated.
The ninetean mea who received tha lettan arere: Capt. Oould, Taylor LIndaay, Biaaey, Luak, Wella, Jor¬ dan, Valbert, Maxwell. Frost, Toung, Bnnn, Knight, Smith, Blotter^ Con¬ nell,^ Bennett, Keith and Chambliss.
The reeord that theae men made under the earnest efforta of their new coach waa one to be envied by any school. To aee that Coach Mit¬ chell was aattstled it waa only nec¬ essary to see the satlafaction which he ahowed while presenting the let-' tera laat MoiLday attemoon.

DKFEATia> AT SALEM
By a aiajorltf of TS. the'propo. aitioB to. create ,a community high aehool district at Salem, was de (aatad, the farmer dUtrleU lining at acaiaat tha Maa.
Residents ot South Flora thought that King Satan and his crew had got loose last Friday night about 9:00 o'clock. Close Investigation, however, proved that It was some Flora root- era actiag as it they had discovered some "Old Taylor" at a dollar a quart. The raal eause of the distur¬ bance was that Olney's "unsnrpas- slble" live want down Into disgrace before the Flora team.
Tickets were at a premium. The world seriea scalpan had nothing on Flora'a spaculatora. Aa high aa 15 FBs paid for the small pastboards and $2.50 and IS.OCwere eommon prices. Tou can Imagine 'how a aar- dtne feels If you wera preaent. .*
In the firat haM Flora nearly gave the game away on technical foula, Tbey failed to hold their handa be¬ hind their back when they Jump¬ ed. It they had not aocurad five points on fouls tha aeora would have been >1 to 8, Dua to the outcome o'f the Bridgeport game, Olney look¬ ed tor an eaay victory. Many ot the rooten (or the Orange and Black be¬ lieved that they let Bridgeport beat them on purpose to mislead Olney. if they had ot done so they would have made a grand success.
StniweU, Olney's crack player, tailed to show up to expectations on account ot beInK guarded so close by "Doe" 'Young. He securad two of Olney's baakets.
Valbert, "Taylpr and Dnft slipped away trom the young giants trom Olney and dropped them Into the basket with a ragularlty that was pleasing. Lusk played an excellent guarding game, and made excellent passes.
Dutt did not make very many tree throws. Wells, tha man who doea this Is out yet. His aubatitute Valbert, is fast devaloplng Into a real basket bail playerf'TffeTeafBS Olaey play¬ era a merry chase Friday.
Flora's team work naver showed up better. The Individual work ao characteristic, of them before was forgotten In this game. The soora at tha end ot the flrat halt waa IS to It In Flora's tavor. It still wasn't anybody's game.
In the tint minute of play ot the second halt Olney scored the only point secured In the halt! It waa a foul on Taylor. Sbe failed to "come baek" as she is noted for doing and got beat good. -
Can toot bali men play clean bas¬ ket ball? They can.
We have watched some of the experiments with this team before but after this one last Friday night we can all draw the conclusion. "This man Dale knowa some basket ball." The playera wera going like demons all the time and the coach's mind, was going taatar than that.
To pick the best player that alght would be some Job. Every man play¬ ed hla best and Olney did tha-aame. Olnay boasted she would play her second team. She did, but oaly be¬ cauae her firat team men wera play- ad t^ a flnlah and as the If alt says, "thaae men neither helped nor hin¬ dered the game." Saturday night Centralia beat them again, SS to 19. Thia second'defeat crushed tham ut¬ terly.
The SSrd Centralia playa - hera. They are a better con4itloned team than Olney and play bettar basket ball. If you want to aaa a good game, do not mias thia one.
Oood "pep" trom community and aehool, helpa.
