PASSES BAO CHECKS At'«least two bad checks were passed on Flora merahanta recenriy, one for |1B and one for $30. On July 9 a yonng man wallied lAto"Tlle Gift Shop," owned by Rex Cunningham, and purchased a watch and chain. In payment for these ar¬ ticles this peraon tendered a check for tm, made out on a First Nation¬ al Bank blank, made payable to "Fred Holmau," and signed "Jno. Hayeoek." Mr. Cunntagham cashed the check, but later, when it was pre¬ sented at the bank, tto check wae turned down.. One the same day, the supposed Fred Holman entered the J. Bowman Hardware Store, made a purchase, and tendered a check made out in th<) same manner as was the check pre¬ sented to the proprietor of The Oitt Shop, to the amount ef 130. Tbis check was also honored, and on pres¬ entation to the liank, was credited to tto account of the hardware Atore, I^iat Thuraday moming, howavsrt the caabier of the bank returned the check to the proprietor of the hard¬ ware atore, declaring it to to spuri- oiu. The two merctonts then drove to Xenia. where a man named Pred Holman resided. Mr. tTunnlngham, on meeting this man, declared he was not the same person who passed the check on him.
