The idea that tlie cliurcli has no re¬ sponsibility toward recreation and .the things commonly termed secular lias not altogether died out In this day of progressive thought. The fact tiat the church Is active, as a rule, only one day in seven, and touches the growing boy for about one hour in that day. Is to no small degree the explanation of the absence of tbe boy from 14 to 20 from the Sunday Scliool and from churcli membership.
There was a time when good relig¬ ious people were Ini'llned to Ignore and despise the body; but today the best chri.stian people look upon the human Ixidy as a sacred thing. The history and work of the noble medical profession is one prolonged and grand tribute to the .sacrediiessof tiie human body.
