SENATOR SHERMAN STOPS IN FLORA Says Ratification ol Peace Treaty Will Die in the Senate and Will Eventually Go to the People at the Ballot Box. United States Senator Lawrence Y. Sherman stopped over in Flora last Friday for a few hours, en route from Washington City to Sprlngtield, where lie delivered an address Kriday night. While here Senator Sherman paid the editor of the Record a short visit, t 11 u s renewing a n acquaintance formed more than thirty years ago. Senator Sherman, though Ohio born, grew to young manhood on a farm in Grove Tp., Jasper County. He attended the public schools at Hewton, and afterward college at Lebanon, 111. Later he entered law school, and was admitted to the bar. About this time he moved to Mc¬ Donough county, where he engaged In the practice of law, and laid the foundation for a political career that has seldom been equaled by other am¬ bitious men of our country. Senator Sherman, like Senators Lodge, Knox, Read, Borah, and many others, is outspokenly opposed to the League of Nations, and says: "When the treaty comes to the Senate In its amended form it will take a two- thirds vote to ratify it. In my Judg¬ ment it cannot get it. The session ¦will die without ratiflcatlon and the treatv will go over for settlement at the ballot Ikik In Win." Senator Sherman left for Sprlng¬ tield at 4:10 Friday afternoon.
