COUNTY TEACHERS' ANNUAL SESSION
Good Attendance. Able Instruct¬ ors. Where They Will Teach This Winter.
()ne of the best Teachers' Institutes for many years was held last week at the Harter-Stanford Township High 'School building In thlsclty, under the ! direction of our new County School Superintendent, Prof. G. W. Brewer. The new primary Instructor, Miss Hamilton, awakened a great Interest among the teachers by her faculty for simple story telling and primary read¬ ing. Miss Hamilton was the tirst primary teacher Clay County teach¬ ers ever had. \ Dr. T. S. Lowden, of Columbus, Ohio, who has been an instructor for . three years at our Institutes, held tlie : interest and attention of every one j present.
'; A very Interesting meeting was jlield on Tuesday evening. The first •Ipart of the program was given up to ijthe "Health Crusade." Miss Hamil¬ ton entertained the audience during a Iportion of the evening by lier inimit- lable story telling and primary read¬ ing. Thursday evening Dr. Lowden .delivered tlie address to tlie graduat- (Ing class of the country schools. Tlie j, auditorium of the High Scliool was Jfllled to overtiowing on tliis occa- Ijcion, and all went away with a greater (Interest in education after listening jto the Doctor's eloquent address. \i Under the new truancy law, all ipuplls will be compelled to attend [(School this year, and with regular at- ||tendanpe the .schools will undoubted¬ ly do much better work.
Our county truant officer, Mr. Homer Moats, expects to see that all iblc-bodled children, between the iges of " and 16 years, attend school. We have had a truancy law for many •ears, but It has never been properly mforced. The teachers liope that the latrons will do all In their power to ssistthem in getting the children In ijchool. No child can succeed who Iocs not attend school regularly.
