The Fourth of July, the big event of the season, given under the aus¬ pices of the Commercial club, was a record breaker for Flora In the way of attendance, the number of peopie bei ng estimated at about HiX)0,
It was an ideal day for the occasion and there was nothing to mar the pleasure of the day excepting the dust, which was surely i|uite olTen¬ sive and those who didn't eat their peck of dirt celebrated at home. How¬ ever, everybtxiy present enjoyed them¬ selves. And to use a slang express¬ ion Flora's Fourth was a '-humdin¬ ger,"
The day opened a,s per program with UK) noisy guns at sunrise, and "ijuIte a few before that time."
The grand Floral Pageant and Civic I'arade was the next on the program which took place about ll:;iii, and was headed by Chaney's band, render¬ ing sweet strains of music, Tliere were about thirty cars In the parade and made a pretty showing. The pri/.e winners for the best decorated autos were: Mr, and Mrs, VV, I). Scudamore, 1st., and Mr. and Mrs. .\ . .1. Kernstein, 2nd.
Soldiers of the Civil and Spanisli American war and the Living Flag, consisting of a number of little girls dressed In red, white and blue crepe paper, formed In line on tlie corner of Nortii avenue and Main streets and marched to the fair grounds. The little girls were drilled by Mrs. Sallle Nichols and Miss Editii Mc- Entlree who had charge of this part of tlie entertainment anrt deserve much praise in the manner In which they trained tlie little folks.
Col. Arthur L. Oliver, of St. Louis, who was to have delivered the pa¬ triotic address, could not be present, and Rev. M, (/", Foltz, pastor of tlie M. E. church, was substituted who made an eloiiuent ami Interesting talk.
Tiie base Iail game between .Flora and Clay City was somewliat 'one¬ sided.' tlie score being I"i to .'i in favor of tiie latter team, and not tiuitc so interesting us it might have been.
