Nichols antl force of men are busy at work tearing down th* tlilrti story of the public school build¬ ing which wa.s recently condemneil, preparatory to repairing and remodel¬ ing the same. In remodeling the building we are informed tliat it will be motlern thruout and constructed so as to conform with the sanitary state laws, will have eight rooms and the structure to be finished with stucco work. The new building is to lie erected on the lots just north of the old one and work on the same will l>e com¬ menced just as soon as the plans and specilicatlons are received and ap¬ proved by the board, the contract let, etc. The structure will be of brick, two stories In height and when lin¬ lshed will compare favorably with any sdiixil building In Southern Illi¬ nois. A Nice Shower Klora and vicinity were visited by a nice little shower Monday evening which cooled off the atmosphere and was a great relief to suffering liiimar- Ity. Small favors are thankfully re¬ ceived. However, we would lie still more thankful should we receive about three times as much rain as we hail, and In fact, a "gullywasher" would be greatly appreciated just now. CITY NEEDS MORE WATER WATER TAKERS NAKE COMPLAINTS About Payini forSomethinfThey Don't Get and Threaten to Cease Use of Same It was reported last week that Klora's water supply had been doubled by an additional new well which it is said will furnish an In¬ exhaustible amount of aqua pura and that the veins which How therein are like "water spouts." However, this may be, we note that Hie water was shut oil several days last week, and especially on Saturday, when there was a large crowd of people In town, and many of whom were thirsty. We heard one lady on the street Saturday night make the remark that slie would like to have a drink, but every place she went they told her that the water was shut otf. Numeious coiuplalnts have been made to the Record by water takers who say they are paying for some¬ thing they do not get, antl. If this be true, they have a kick coming, and should be entitled to a rebate on water rent for whicli tliey have paiil but have not received full benelit. It is high time to get liusy and remedy our water situation and see tliat tlie user gets what he pays for. The Record is not iulverse to criti¬ cism, neither should our city be.
